Former Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford was sentenced Friday to 15 years in federal prison for taking some $235,000 in bribes in return for lucrative bond work.

Whatever happened to the black democrat politician who stashed money in his freezer and had the National Guard drive him to pick it up during Katrina?? I don’t remember hearing the outcome.

Not a word about his party affiliation. But they mentioned that of his accomplices;

“But investment banker Bill Blount pleaded guilty to making the payments, and lobbyist Al LaPierre admitted being the middleman. Mr. Blount, the former state Democratic Party chairman, last week was sentenced to more than four years in prison. Mr. LaPierre, the former executive director of the state Democratic Party, got four years. Mr. Blount also was ordered to pay $1 million to the government, and LaPierre $470,000.”””

"I am sorry all this has occurred."

Illustrative, and typical, liberal apology: No hint of personal accountability.

The investigation, arrest, trial, conviction and sentencing are simply "occurrences", as if they could happen to anyone, out of the blue. As if his own choices had nothing at all to do with his conviction.

Building your house on the shifting sand of situational ethics is still a Bad Idea.

“Not a word about his party affiliation.”

Good. I am not going crazy then. I had to look it up. Heaven forbid if AP actually reported it.

Remember this guy?

...drug addiction, drug bust, jail time, failure to file income taxes, marital infidelity, an arrest for alleged stalking, sex addiction...

This kind of thing is called pay to play and is really common in the government bond world. This guy was just not as smart as most, who have the $$ come at them in the form of campaign donations.

IMHO, the whole pay to play thing is corrupt and should be outlawed.
