Police clashed with stone-throwing youths in Athens on Thursday as tens of thousands protested draconian cutbacks aimed at pulling Greece out of a debt crisis shaking the euro zone.
About 50 black-hooded youths hurled sticks and pieces of marble broken from the steps of the Bank of Greece at police, who responded with several rounds of tear gas.
The youths threw petrol bombs, smashed shop windows and set garbage containers on fire, but the level of violence was much lower than during 2008 riots that paralyzed the city for weeks after the police killing of a teenager.

What interests me is that the article says violence is lower than in years past. Are the majority maybe waking up to the fact that gov’t can’t spend money it doesn’t have?
As for the youths, they are no doubt like my nephew who had a left-wing, as opposed to a liberal, education. It’s going to take a long time for reality to set in.
When (if) the commie regime in the White House ends peacefully or is forcefully removed, we better wake up and start severely cracking down on the Left. Hard. With extreme prejudice.

In early 2006, a group of former SDS members and sympathisers, led by DSA activist Paul Buhle joined with some a new generation of college students to re-found Students For a Democratic Society. The movement now has over 130 chapters across the USA.
More importantly Buhle and co also founded an SDS support group for older activists-Movement for a Democratic Society (MDS). SDS is the muscle behind the new protest movement and was very prominent in the recent violence at the Republican National Convention at St Paul Minnesota. MDS is the brains behind the SDS brawn

you forgot Greece has done TWO illegal alien amnesties!
The second was done after the first one could not handle the volume.
Then again keep in mind these 50 “youts” are the usual european deadbeat anarchists.
You also have greenpeace kooks doing petitions in athens.
We will need to begin with a massive education program. There is such incredible ignorance in our country about what is happening, it's both frightening and depressing.
After a few weeks without food the level of energy should subside dramatically.
Nothing happens in greece that didn’t happen there during the last 150 years - they have been corrupt they have been protesting they have been anti-state ...
It’s how they live.
If anyone - investor, politico, citizen thinks that this was now about to change I would admire their optimism but not share it.
Greece is defacto example of how Socialism is never the end game. The End Game is full blown communism. Socialism is just the middle ground on the way from Freedom and Liberty to the bondage of Communism.
The students never will. Only after they leave college, get into the working world and find out the truth.
The Greek police need to bring these guys back to deal with the socialist hoards. ;)
“you forgot Greece has done TWO illegal alien amnesties!”
Did not know that, thanks. That’s why I enjoy FR—an endless source of knowledge on topics ranging from science, religion, politics, economics, just about anything!
Whenever the newswires vaguely describe (not by accident or sloppiness) a scene of “youths protesting” and “clashing with baton wielding police” we can ALWAYS say that said said “youths” are either immigrant minorities, far-left agitators, or both. The far-left agitators, by the way, rarely have a dog in the fight and are simply opportunists who jump into any altercation with glee and try to turn it violent, just as they did with the ‘08 riots. This is the same for any country in Europe, as well as regions of the U.S. heavily infested with such vermin. They simply want to fight for the sake of fighting, causing chaos, smashing windows, and attacking cops.
