Stop Abortion Funding in Health Care Reform! (USCCB is in trouble now)
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops ^ | 3/11/2010 | USCCB

Posted on 03/14/2010 1:34:00 PM PDT by mgist

This afternoon, the USCCB contacted dioceses across the country with a new bulletin insert. As church bulletin’s are usually prepared on Wednesdays, the Conference realizes that most parishes will not be able to utilize the insert for this weekend. They have asked, however, that dioceses use every means of dissemination and social networking available to get this important action alert out, as action in the House is expected in days. You can do the same.

In the insert, the Bishops again urge Catholics to contact their House and Senate members urging them to oppose the Senate Health Care Bill unless changes regarding abortion funding, conscience and immigrants are made. Here it is in pdf and inline below:

USCCB NATIONWIDE BULLETIN INSERT/ACTION ALERT Updated 3-11-2010

Stop Abortion Funding in Health Care Reform!

Protect Conscience

Ensure Affordable Health Coverage

Allow Immigrants to Purchase Private Health Insurance

As long-time advocates of health care reform, the U.S. Catholic bishops continue to make the moral case that genuine health care reform must protect the life, dignity, consciences and health of all, especially the poor and vulnerable. Health care reform should provide access to affordable and quality health care for all, and not advance a pro-abortion agenda in our country. Genuine health care reform is being blocked by those who insist on reversing widely supported policies against federal funding of abortion and plans which include abortion, not by those working simply to preserve these longstanding protections.

• On November 7, the U.S. House of Representatives passed major health care reform that reaffirms the essential, longstanding and widely supported policy against using federal funds for elective abortions and includes positive measures on affordability and immigrants.

• On December 24, the U.S. Senate rejected this policy and passed health care reform that requires federal funds to help subsidize and promote health plans that cover elective abortions. All purchasers of such plans will be required to pay for other people’s abortions through a separate payment solely to pay for abortion. And the affordability credits for very low income families purchasing private plans in a Health Insurance Exchange are inadequate and would leave families financially vulnerable.

• Outside the abortion context, neither bill has adequate conscience protection for health care providers, plans or employers.

• Congressional leaders are now trying to figure out how the rules of the House and Senate could allow the final passage of a modified bill that would satisfy disagreements between House and Senate versions.

ACTION: Contact your Representative and Senators today by e-mail, phone or FAX.

• To send a pre-written, instant e-mail to Congress go to www.usccb.org/action.

• Call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at: 202-224-3121, or call your Members’ local offices.

Contact info can be found on Members’ web sites at www.house.gov & www.senate.gov.

MESSAGE – HOUSE: “I am pleased that the House health care bill maintains the longstanding policy against federal funding of abortion. On the other hand, the provisions on abortion funding in the current un-amended Senate health care bill are seriously deficient and unacceptable. I urge you to work to uphold essential provisions against abortion funding, to include full conscience protection and to ensure that health care is accessible and affordable for all. I urge you to oppose any bill unless and until these criteria are met.”

MESSAGE – SENATE:

“I am deeply disappointed that the current un-amended Senate health care bill fails to maintain the longstanding policy against federal funding of abortion and does not include adequate protection for conscience. I urge you to support essential provisions against abortion funding, similar to those in the House bill. Include full conscience protection and ensure that health care is accessible and affordable for all. I urge you to oppose any bill unless and until these criteria are met.”

WHEN: Votes in the House and Senate are expected at any time. Act today! Thank You!

The Catholic church will face serious attacks over this. The calumny machine is in full force. I implore all God loving Christians to defend those who keep His commandments. We are brothers and Jesus prayed that we may be One in Him.

What is needed is some instrution for the bishops and priests on exactly how bad this monstrosity is. Too many of them actually came out in support of so-called “health care reform” even though it is widely known that it will lead to more abortions and euthanasia. The plan is an abomination; yet some clergy just don’t see it that way.

Hard to educate the congregation on the wrongs in this so-called “reform” when many in the clergy are on board with it.

The Catholic Church will begin to speak with moral authority when Biden, Pelosi and their ilk are excommunicated and pedophile priests go to prison. Until then, the church is as amoral as the New York Times.

While all humans are weak, Catholic "scandals" will be blown way out of porportion.

The reason the Catholic church is under attack, is because the US Catholic Bishops refuse to accept Obama's Eugenics Health Care Bill, and the Church is one of many victims of the governments wrath. Comform or be cast out. Welcome to Obama's Amerika!

pedophile priests go to prison.

Bizarre comment. It isn't the responsibility of The Church to put criminal priests in prison; that is a government prosecutor function. Are you entirely without knowledge of civics? Or just a bigot?

God will judge Pelosi and friends, sorry we can't burn them at the stake. We can't begin to measure God's mercy, and won't pretend to have God's abilities to know men's hearts.

Regardless, this is a battle between good and evil, not Obama. Who's side are you on?

I am glad the Church is finally stepping up, but its inabiity to get this ready for this week’s bulletins is inexcusable. They saw this coming for weeks.

Hopefully the pro-life groups go on offense TOMORROW.

Probably the latter, as I see the protections and obfuscations offered by the church as complicity not charity and forgiveness.

“In the insert, the Bishops again urge Catholics to contact their House and Senate members urging them to oppose the Senate Health Care Bill unless changes regarding abortion funding, conscience and immigrants are made.”

The Marxist ideology of the Bishops is made transparent in their own notice on this issue; for leaving all the other Marxist gimmicks in the legislation, sans the few they say they oppose, they would have no alert on this issue because they fully support the rest of the bill.

This is how they have been losing Western Europe to the Marxists for decades - making alliances of convenience on “social issues”, caring NOT one twit about the building of Marxist societies - while the Marxist love their support, and in the end care not one twit about the bishops moral concerns. Once they have their political majorities, with the help of the leftist-dominated Catholic intellectuals, in and out of the church, they readily dismiss the fig leaf of shared concerns on moral issues.

When Americans look back at the shame of this era, they will hold the USCCB partly responsible.

Well, I don’t know that we should blame them for missing the deadline. If you’ve watched the Drudge headlines over the past year, healthcare has been about to pass just about every other day for the past nine months or so.

This is about the 25th time that Pelosi has announced that they were just about to pass it.

Amen, the only problem is that the gargoyles are going to be in a frenzy. This is what the Blessed Mother has warned us about many times. Hold on tight and pray hard my friend, we are in for a crazy ride.

We know who wins this battle, we are in Advent and await renewal.

Code Red” - House Target List on Health Care

The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obama’s announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the “fixer” bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.

And here are toll-free numbers we can use to call any Senators or Reps.
At the first number below you must wait through a tape recording urging you to tell your Rep or Senator to vote “yes” for the health care bill. Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Then you will either talk to an aid or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.

When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Every time I use this number I get the Rep or Senator’s answer machine, so it may be set up that way all the time...to go to their answer machine. Either way you can leave a message to vote NO on the health care bill!

We need to use these toll free numbers that have been set up for the health care/ BO supporters and illegals to use! After all they are FREE!

The Catholic Church is right here. No funding for abortion.

**The Catholic church will face serious attacks over this.**

Yes, the media is attacking the Catholic Church right now — and this is the reason why. They don’t want people to believe the church that has withstood attacks for over 2000 years.

Pray for the Bishops and pray for Catholics that stand up for life! Especially in front of the Planned Parenthood killing houses.
