WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democratic lawmakers say party leaders are considering winning crucial support from abortion foes for health care overhaul legislation with an executive order by President Barack Obama.
The order - which does not require congressional approval - would be aimed at reflecting long-standing law barring federal aid for abortions except for cases of rape or incest or when the mother's life is threatened.
Democratic Reps. Henry Waxman of California and James Oberstar of Minnesota both said an executive order was under discussion by party leaders.

When he was a state senator in Il. he did vote for a law allowing babys that survived late term abortion to be stuffed into a closet to die without treatment. So much for the right to life.

The fact they are talking about anything that has to do with Stupak is a good sign. They wouldn’t risk upsetting their radical pro aborts just to run up the tally if they already had a majority.

As others have said, an executive order still won’t appease the Dims threatening to vote no on each side of the abortion issue: Stupak’s group if the Senate language isn’t changed, and the pro-abortion Dims if the Senate language is weakened or abandoned.
Somebody, somewhere in this issue is selling out.

Not true, presidents are famous for signing last minute executive orders (EO) just before the end of their administration.
The Supreme Court can overturn EO’s, and has done so, but only twice.
The next president can issue a new EO, which can change things, but EO’s tend to be sticky.

If the abortion language in the Senate bill (H.R. 3590) says "X", an Executive Order cannot make it say "Y". It just doesn't work that way - ask Harry Truman.
If this were the plan, what happens to the 40 or so RATS who wouldn’t vote for this unless it HAD a Federal funding of abortions???
Why not just issue an executive order for the whole freaking unconstitutional, socialist health care bill? Is such a move the socialists are considering in and of itself unconstitutional?
