Immigration reform rally draws tens of thousands to Washington (They want the "freebies")

Reporting from Los Angeles and Washington Tens of thousands of people began assembling in Washington on Sunday to march for immigration reform, a politically charged issue that has been pushed to a back burner by the intense focus on healthcare.

In a tactic that reflects the current economy, march organizers have tried to cast the immigration debate as part of economic recovery.

"What's important today is that jobs and immigration go hand in hand," Marc Morial of the National Urban League said on Sunday in a television interview. "When you've got millions of undocumented workers working off the books, that affects the economy for everyone."

Organizers are hoping to draw tens of thousands of people to the National Mall then march to RFK Stadium. Organizers say they have attracted hundreds of groups from almost every state for what they call a "March for America."

There are more than 11 million illegal immigrants in the country, and efforts to fix the current immigration system have failed in recent years. Liberals have sought a path for citizenship for undocumented workers, while conservatives have been just as adamant in opposing what they have called plans for amnesty. Both sides support efforts to secure the border with Mexico, but they differ on what tactics to use.

Great!

I hope there are Mexican flags all over the place and signs written in Spanish.

The last time illegal criminals “rallied” they set their cause back 5 years. Maybe this time it will be a decade.

Nope, just came from DC and saw the large crowd, paid for by the UNION. They carried American flags like it was going to make difference.

I can’t understand why they are not arrested. They are not Americans and have no right to protest. They think they are entitled to our rights. If they want our rights and protections, they need to get in line at the Immigration Office.

Note to Obama: you want to find money to cover your large deficit? Disband the Immigration Office. They aren’t doing their job!

I’m so mad that nothing is being done I could spit fire!

59% Say U.S. Should Continue To Build Fenceon U.S.-Mexico Border - Rasmussen Poll

Mar. 18, 2010 - The Obama administration announced on Tuesday that it is halting funding of the fence along the U.S.-Mexico border, but 59% of Americans believe the United States should continue to build that fence.

Support for the fence has been at this level for several years. In January of last year, 60% favored the continued building of the fence to help stop illegal immigration and drug trafficking. In August 2007, 56% felt that way.

Following this week’s shooting deaths of U.S. consulate personnel in Mexico, 49% say they are more concerned about drug violence along the border than illegal immigration. Thirty-nine percent (39%) remain more concerned about illegal immigration. This is consistent with findings in January 2009 amid news reports of escalating drug violence in Mexico.

Sixty-five percent (65%) of men believe the United States should continue to build the border fence, compared to 54% of women. Those under the age of 50 are stronger advocates of a fence than their elders.

Sixty-nine percent (69%) of Republicans think the fence still should be built, a view shared by 51% of Democrats and 58% of adults not affiliated with either major party.

As the country wrestles with a future of historic-level deficits, 67% of voters say illegal immigrants are a significant strain on the U.S. budget. That’s one reason why 68% say gaining control of the border is more important than legalizing the status of undocumented workers already living in the United States. The majority support for controlling the borders has been consistent through several years of surveying.
A sizable majority of Americans have consistently said that it is important for the government to improve its enforcement of the borders and reduce illegal immigration.[snip] http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2475439/posts
