Karl Rove 'In The Fight' Again With New Memoir (fantastic interview)
NPR ^ | March 17th | Terry Gross

Posted on 03/26/2010 3:23:52 PM PDT by Halfmanhalfamazing

This is FRESH AIR. I'm Terry Gross.

My guest, Karl Rove, was called the architect by President George W. Bush, the architect of Bush's successful reelection campaign. A critical bestselling book about Rove used the nickname "Bush's brain," and described Rove as the co-president. In the Washington Post, reporters Peter Baker and Michael Fletcher describe Rove as, quote, "the primary author of President Bush's two successful national campaigns and perhaps the most influential and controversial presidential strategist of his generation," unquote.

Karl Rove ran George W. Bush's campaigns beginning with his run for governor of Texas. Rove served as senior advisor to President Bush for seven years, and also served as deputy chief of staff during Bush's second term. He left the White House at the end of August 2007. Now he's a Fox News contributor and writes a weekly op-ed for the Wall Street Journal. He's written a new memoir called "Courage and Consequence: My Life as a Conservative in the Fight."

Rove did a fantastic job in this interview. This journalist repeatedly tried pushing forth liberal premises and Rove shot them down every time that I heard.

You can read the transcript, but if you have the time you should listen. She'll make you rip your hair out but the recoveries are good every time. Especially his last few comments.

It’s nice that Rove is “shooting down” liberal premises now - it’s too bad that his “architecture” for GWB was to co-opt liberal issues to create a Republican party that would be in power for decades. bitter laugh

Rove must be tickled pink that the Obama administration is just a hair’s breadth away from amnesty-ing millions of natural republican voters.

Turdblossum can KMA. I'm not buying his book, or Dubya's when it comes out.

I am waiting for Cheney's book with great anticipation.

Yep, Rove did a great job on guiding Bush on education and immigration policy amd almost a great job on selling the Iraq war to the American people. sarcasm. He made Bush appear to be a half a.... liberal, so the public went out and elected a bunch of real ones in 2006 and 2008. So much for his boast of Republicans in charge for a generation. To me, he is just another loud mouthed political shill. We already have too many of them.

Terry Gross is an Ahole. She’s always been an Ahole. I have heard her on many interviews and she’s always pushing the liberal/left agenda.

Nice job by Rove. Typical NPR interview: primary focus on homosexuality.

"I have heard her on many interviews and she’s always pushing the liberal/left agenda."

Yes she is. She's an East Coast liberal and denizen of the left.

At the same time she is generally fair and respectful with people and gives them plenty of room to state their case. She's a good interviewer I think.

Then she'll ask some wacky question about homophobia or global warming...

Well he did get results. If the scoreboard is the measure. It could be said we are all overrated.

Great interview. Thanks for posting it.

I noticed Rove didn't let the interviewer get away with anything. Answered every question with thoroughness and clarity.

And not just Rove. I wonder if W will do pro-amnesty television ads for the left.

Great Interview.

Rove should teach courses on how to stay on point and message and NOT let others try to redefine you (Sarah Palin could have used that in the early days of McCain/Palin).

He does NOT let others put words in his mouth, nor does he get flustered. He has the cool, calm, and level-headed demeanor of an honest man of character.
