IMO, both are problems. Illegals "do" get entitlements despite their illegality. But the bishops are even more in favor of the welfare state than they are illegal immigration.
Yes! Lets open the gates to "all immigration". Let's import half of all Pakistan, half of Nigeria, ditto for Somalia, Yemen, and the rest of the third world, including of course whoever in Mexico doesn't already live here.
Merging our homeland with the third world will end the USA. It will simply no longer exist in any meaningful way beyond maybe the formal name.

Take away the entitlements and I don’t see how it’s any different than in the 19th century.
Sure, I meant legal immigration. I disagree with quotas and I think it works against qualified immigrants.
As for the welfare state being supported by the bishops, I think that’s a terrible decision. Charity is supposed to be voluntary and not coerced. I think scripture is very clear on this point.
My impression as well. "Empowering" government to play Robin Hood is NOT what Christ wanted of us.
