Waxman’s Vendetta (hitting critics with congressional subpoenas)
National Review ^ | March 30, 2010 12:00 A.M. | Rich Lowry

Henry Waxman is peeved. He expects corporate America to swallow health-care reform without a peep of protest — and, apparently, without revealing new costs to shareholders or the Securities and Exchange Commission....He has called the CEOs of AT&T, Caterpillar, and Deere to testify before his committee, accompanying his summons with a far-reaching document request lest the corporations miss the point: This is naked political harassment.

If the democrats had held a single HEARING with witnesses who would be affected by Obamacare, then maybe we would have learned all this stuff in advance.

This administration and their co-conspirators in Congress didn't give a crap about what the corporations thought about the whole idea and they certainly don't want them saying anything negative about it now.

But, when you think about it, how could these companies even know how the new laws would effect them until they actually READ the final law? Their lawyers and financial people have even now probably read more of the legislation than those twits that voted for it - I would say even Obama himself had not read it all before he signed it and maybe not even today as we speak. He's been too busy flitting hither and yon to drum up support for something he doesn't really even know very well.

I hope and pray that this big, ugly mess of an attack on American ideals and freedoms doesn't get past the starting line before it is judged unconstitutional and thrown into the garbage heap of bad ideas passed off as "progressive".

I hope the CEOs take it to the congressmen and totally embarrass them with facts...and ask them if they knew what was in it before they signed it.

I would love to hear one say, "We're not members of congress or of the Obama administration...so we have to pay our taxes."

Absolute power corrupts absolutely... and Waxman and Pelosi both in their so-called safe districts are perfect proof.

“and ask them if they knew what was in it before they signed it.”

Pelosi already told them that after they voted for it they would be allowed to find out what was in it!!!

A pretty high up employee of AT&T got it from his boss 2 days ago.

Sorry, second hand hearsay doesn't count as a source.

Do a Google on AT&T and Health care. Find an article that says $1B/month. That qualifies as a source.

FWIW, I did that before responding to you. All I could find was "one time charge."

Cadaver Waxman is over-reaching government’s duties again. Anything else new in town?

I'm sorry your last reply got pulled.

Keep in mind that they are the largest employer in the country outside of the government.

Are they now?

According to Yahoo Finance, AT&T has 218,000 employees.

According to Yahoo Finance, Wal*Mart has 2,000,000 employees.
