MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- Two Martinsville police officers have been suspended after they were accused of using a Taser to subdue a 10-year-old.
A news release from the mayor's office and the Martinsville Police Department said the officers responded Tuesday evening to Tender Teddies Day Care on reports of a 10-year-old who was out of control.
The release said that the officers, trying to prevent the child from hurting other children, staff members and himself, slapped the boy and then used a Taser to subdue him.
"While the department will not condone the unnecessary treatment of any subject, regardless of age, in any apprehension situation, additional comments will not be made pending results of the final investigation," the release read.

If two grown men can't handle a ten year old without using a taser then they need to find another profession, period.
How whacked out can a 10 year old GET so that an adult or two would not suffice to put an end to the tantrum?
In the continuum of force the taser is pressed as that step after verbal commands are ignored and before it is necessary to use physical force, not in place of or after physical force is applied. These guys may either be entirely in the right or just sadistic either way the tantrum ended. Personally, I recommend shock collars for little bast’rds who have never learned to shut up and sit down when told.
Hard to believe the police were called to handle a 10 year old. Sounds like the day care center should have called an exorcist instead. What fun when that child becomes a free-wheeling adult is turned loose on a barely suspecting society!
Gotta side with the police officers on this one... can’t even imagine the kind of trouble you’d run into at Tender Teddies Day Care. /s
Well, the taser does represent a significant level of force. So, on the face of it, it obviously seems excessive to use this device on a 10 year old child. But, I wasn’t there. However, this idea of using cops to give the ass beating that the parents should have given is becoming all to common these days. This is the likely outcome when the “village” is expected to raise children.
At least is wasn’t a 71 year old gramma.
A Travis County grand jury has declined to indict a deputy constable on a charge of injury to an elderly person after he used his Taser stun gun on a female motorist during an incident last year.

taze my kid, bro!
In this case the cops might have prevented the kid from biting them or hurting himself. Imagine putting the kid in the back of a squad car kicking and screaming like that.
Would they have preferred the cops shoot the kid instead?
How about beating him into submission with billy-clubs?

These cops have families to go home to at the end of the day. They shouldn’t be taking chances unnecessarily. They should have called in SWAT and had the kid taken out by a sniper.
Idiots. You can pull a kid like that out of a tantrum by filling two plastic water pistols (squirt guns) and handing him one.
Truly.
My other kid IS 10 and physically very strong (he's a gymnast). Still, any adult who can't restrain him using their arms/body shouldn't be in law enforcement.
Sounds like they took care of this child THX1138 style!
Personally I recommend spanking the little bas****s and not bothering the cops at all. Back in the day schools didn’t call cops when kids “got out of control” because they never let them get to the point they were out of control. Now they can’t touch the little tyrants and are forced to call police.
These days cops are between a rock and a hard place. A ten year old throwing a two year old tantrum threatening other children is a dangerous situation. Honestly, I probably would have tazed the kid too.
Well, this is the lead story on KLBJ with Mark, Ed and SGT Sam today. There are a LOT of callers (and the lib - Ed) that actually think the deputy did wrong. She has been in trouble with a lot of other law enforcement officers.
She was doing 60 MPH in a construction zone that had been reduced to 45 MPH. In Texas, fines double in construction zones when workers are present. She was warned five times before the tazing.
To bad she go to NYC with a free airplane trip, a limo ride and got on the Today show with Matt Lauer (sp). She also got a $40,000 settlement from Travis county.
