He may be the world's foremost mixed-race leader, but when it came to the official government head count, President Barack Obama gave only one answer to the question about his ethnic background: African-American.
The White House confirmed Friday that Obama did not check multiple boxes on his U.S. Census form, or choose the option that allows him to elaborate on his racial heritage. He ticked the box that says "Black, African Am., or Negro."

Are you saying the “I will stand with Muslims etc” is inaccurate? Could you cite the accurate quote, then? I’ve read that quote in context here on FR and IIRC that’s what it said.
Yep, that’s the one... It too, see it a lot quoted exactly as that here at FR, and other places which is why I try to point it out when I see it.
I’ll go look it up and report back with the actual quote in a few moments...
* I too, see it...
Why not? If a man born in Kenya can say he is African-American, why not one born in South Africa?
OK, I’d have no problem if the quote was re-worded this way because it would still be accurate:
“I will stand with them [American Citizens of Arab and Pakistani Ethnicity] if the political winds shift in an ugly direction.”
The quote itself was part of a much longer paragraph discussing the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII, and related that in discussions with these groups of people Obama had seen a need for reassurances that their citizenship meant something and that if internment again became something discussed during the War on Terror that he would stand with them against internment. Snopes won’t allow Copy & Paste, but you can see not only what was forwarded as an email during the campaign (the same as Patriot08’s post), but also the sections of the books those quotes were taken from. The web URL is here: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/ownwords.asp
The quote in question can be found at the end of a paragraph on page 261 of “The Audacity of Hope”.
Now, I agree that in the “big picture” the sentiment of the re-worded quote is most likely true when it comes to Obama. Just that, like I said, it’s harder to get people to see the problems with Obama in reference to his actual ACTIONS taken against our country, when people get hung up on quotes that aren’t really accurate and can then say — everything else you’ve said is probably a twisted truth, too.
I hope you both understand what I’m saying... I’m obviously NOT a fan of Obama (my real feelings about him personally could get me banned here), just that I do feel we need to focus on his actions.
There is no "mixed" check box.
Incorrect, historically in the USA the "one single drop" view was the determinate factor.
If you can find the exact paragraph from the book I’d appreciate it, since you said that the one quoted was wrong.
Regarding Snopes, they’re liberal a**hats and I p*** on them. Why trust liberals who may sometimes be correct but are known to be liars?
As a Caucasian, I’m offended that he did not acknowledge his Caucasian ancestry.
It is my opinion that one drop rule is no longer valid since this is the 21st Century. Indeed, it is an insult to White Americans that Obama refuse to identify himself as half White.
Nam Vet
What is the penalty for filing a false response on the census form?
Obama is ARAB AMERICAN.
I have the paragraph from a different source than Snopes, but it will take me a while to find it - and we’re about to have Easter Dinner so it may take me a bit to get back to you.
I understand your aversion to Snopes, but the entire paragraph is there on the page I linked — or I suppose one could actually buy the book (or check it out at the library) and easily confirm that the paragraph cited at Snopes is accurate. Frankly, even if I do find the other source I mentioned the complaint may be the same wouldn’t it? I mean unless you have the actual book in front of you ANY reproduction of that paragraph on the ‘net would be subject to the same scrutiny, right?
The point is, that the meaning of that quote out of context, is much different than taking it IN context as to what he was discussing in that part of the book. To substitute Muslims in general, for Arab and Pakistani CITIZENS, and to ignore the subject which was internment of Japanese Citizens in WWII is dishonest. We don’t NEED to twist the meaning of his words — his ACTIONS speak louder than ANYTHING he could have written or not written. “Standing with the Muslims” as the quote (as forwarded by our fellow Conservatives) reads implies a MUCH different world-view, and one that is meant to scare people. As I said, we don’t NEED propaganda when the TRUTH is right there, and pretty damn powerful on its own...
That is exactly what we discussed during our Easter dinner. How can any of us know what race we are? I know very little of my great grandparents, let alone my great great great great grandparents.
The most most of us have to go by is our skin color and family stories, which may or may not be probative of the truth.
I remember that during his campaign it was revealed that his Kenyan father was actually 3/4 Arabic (according to his birth certificate), and 1/4 African. So that made The One half white, 3/8 Arabic, and 1/8 African.
“...IMO, that doesnt look like a young Obama.”
That was my fist thought, too. I just don’t see the resemblance.
In my “Official book” he is simply a communist asshole.
I just checked Snopes and if they are correct, then you are as well.
But lefitsts are never to be trusted - they may be correct in this case, or thay may not be correct.
If any freeper has the book and can type it out, then we’ll know for sure.
I checked with Snopes years ago in connection with Hilary Clinton and they directly lied about her. So I never, ever bother with them. It’s like trusting someone you know who sometimes lies and sometimes doesn’t. Not worth trusting them even once, cause you “never know”.
That is my question. If I were his momma, I’d be pretty p.o.ed with him about now. But then again, if I were his momma . . . oh, never mind.
