Were sure youre hearing things like this yourself, but today at lunch our friend Sarah told us shes pregnant and that shes unable to get health insurance because her pregnancy is a pre-existing condition insurance wont cover.
She was in tears because she thought she was unable to get pregnant, and was actually on birth control, despite the fact other medical problems have kept her from having a period for seven years. Well, a miracle happened, but it unfortunately happened about a month after she was laid off her job so shes unmarried, has no insurance, and her boyfriend is a musician who doesnt have insurance of his own.
Sarah has a doctors appointment next week, and spent most of the morning fighting with the billing department there, as well as several insurance companies, trying to determine what she could do to pay for all the medical help shell need with this pregnancy.

Maybe she expects someone to check it out for her. Some people are helpless.
That's a reasonable price if you consider what you get for your money. One-third of our money went to the hospital's lawyers to keep the John Edwards types at bay. One-third went to defensive medicine and unnecessary tests to protect our doctors if they still got sued. One third went to important things, such as the private birthing room, the private room for the next 48 hours, a private telephone line, cable television, and a few peripheral frills such as a doctor and a couple of nurses.
Tort reform, keep hearing that it is only 200B per year, let’s say it is. About 20% of it is delivering kids.
No wonder it costs so much to have one anymore. Going to see that Doctor should cost <100 and that includes most blood tests.
0bama will just tell her that the baby is her punishment.
bump
Isnt she eligible for Medicaid?
Don’t confuse them with facts.
OK, I wont mention the free food for pregnant women either.
BTTT
There’s something wrong with this story. Why would anyone who thought they couldn’t get pregnant be taking birth control pills?
Probably just more lies from lying liars.
medicaid will also cover pregnant women, and they usually also qualify for assistance under the WIC (women, infants and children) plan
YOU want a real sob story? Thirty five years ago I had a job with no heath insurance. That winter I came down with a cold, then pneumonia and ended up in the hospital for a week. Total, I lost two weeks work with no sick pay. The hospital had taken me straight in with no arguing about insurance.
After I was well, I was given the bill. I then sold some stuff and got a much better job and eventually PAID OFF THE ENTIRE BILL myself!
Kiss my royal fat cat’s a$$, Obama.
AND YOU ALSO BLANCHE LINCOLN!
I also paid off TWO CHILDREN born w/o health insurance!
This couple must both be democRAT voters
“What an ignorant thing to write!”
You think they are too stupid even to vote democRAT??
what the L are you talking about?
I have the cancelled check for $100 it cost my parents for my hospital birth—a one week stay for Mom and me.
I don’t get it... what if there was NO MEDICAL PROFESSION CASHGRAB. Can’t she have a baby without insurance? UNHEARD OF!
I think that lots of people have babies every day without medical insurance.
Well. the “approved plans” whenever they go into effect are supposed to come in at about 12k per family. So, it would still be cheaper for her to pay the birth expense out of pocket than to by an approved plan. (I know, subsidies and the like modify the calculation).
