Obama Limits When U.S. Would Use Nuclear Arms
New York Times ^ | April 5, 2010 | DAVID E. SANGER and PETER BAKER

Posted on 04/05/2010 5:37:13 PM PDT by lbryce

WASHINGTON — President Obama said Monday that he was revamping American nuclear strategy to substantially narrow the conditions under which the United States would use nuclear weapons, even in self defense.

But the president said in an interview that he was carving out an exception for “outliers like Iran and North Korea” that have violated or renounced the main treaty to halt nuclear proliferation.

Discussing his approach to nuclear security the day before formally releasing his new strategy, Mr. Obama described his policy as part of a broader effort to edge the world toward making nuclear weapons obsolete, and to create incentives for countries to give up any nuclear ambitions. To set an example, the new strategy renounces the development of any new nuclear weapons, overruling the initial position of his own defense secretary.

Mr. Obama’s strategy is a sharp shift from those adopted by his predecessors and seeks to revamp the nation’s nuclear posture for a new age in which rogue states and terrorist organizations are greater threats than traditional powers like Russia and China.

It eliminates much of the ambiguity that has deliberately existed in American nuclear policy since the opening days of the Cold War. For the first time, the United States is explicitly committing not to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear states that are in compliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, even if they attacked the United States with biological or chemical weapons, or launched a crippling cyberattack.

Those threats, he argued, could be deterred with “a series of graded options” -- a combination of old and newly designed conventional weapons.

“I’m going to preserve all the tools that are necessary in order to make sure that the American people are safe and secure,” Mr. Obama said during the interview in the Oval Office.

You were saying ...

He needs removal from office immediately. Then Biden. Then Pelosi. Then Reid.

Ummmm..., well, the problem was... he was elected -- when he should have never been elected in the first place.

So, when you say "he needs removal from office immediately..." I'm wondering who is going to be doing that removal, considering all those who voted for him in the first place?

Oh my!

So let’s expose even more Americans and it’s soldiers to possible death because this traitor won’t defend our people with the weapons it has! Why? Because we’re evil Americans and how dare we defend ourselves! We all deserve to die because we’ve been too successful, remember?

Woe to us our very naivete that the worst we could have imagined as him being a closet Socialist. Communist The O is without question the very Anti-Christ, as foretold by by bilblical prophecy.

We had all feared the 0, the latent diabolical Anbti-Americanism that pulsated from within his soulless treasonous black heart.

The nightmarish poltical reality we had all feared about the 0, has now been revealed released from the 0's Pandora's Box of poltical, treason, America-self hatred unprecedented in our republic.

LET US NOT PRAY FOR THE PRESIDENT'S HEALTH, WELL-BEING.

What an unmitigating disaster for Americsa we'd seen the very being a closet

There is a bright side. A strike would most likely take out Obama’s (and by proxy, the Democrats) strongest power bases. Then the rest of us could get on with living our lives.

You were saying ...

He can’t be impeached because he’s not really President.

It would seem that some here (who say Obama is not the President) are caught between a "rock and a hard place" ... because they say they can't impeach him because he's not really the President -- and -- he keeps doing thing as President... now that's a real "Catch 22" doncha know ... :-)

It’s only a matter of time. Too many people know, he had scores of people scrubbing, fixing, hiding, sealing, bribing, blackmailing, paying off, etc. When that many people know secrets, then when the ship starts to sink, not all will want to go down with it.

The dam is already getting cracks. He’s revealing himself more and more as a psychotic enemy of the US.

I do not think any of us sane minded people want a nuclear war.

But to see him telegraph our strategic doctrine publicly where our opponents can estimate our level of deterrent is self defeating.

What is he thinking???

Don’t kid yourselves folks this has been planned and on the books for some time. It is being released now to knock the Alcoa, Deere, Caterpillar, AT&T, and other corporations who are announcing huge hits from Obamacare.

This position is in place and there’s not a damn thing we can do about it — even if we win in November. Stay focused on healthcare and the numbers being put out by these companies. People losing jobs, doctors leaving their practices, retirees being dumped onto the public dole, increases in ‘real taxes’ to the middle class, and an ultimate road to rationing are the reason Congress needs to changes hands in November. We need to keep that front and center and not let Obama and his MSM shills move on to this and the next topic surely to hit at the beginning of next week.

They are rolling out their campaign to sell Obamacare by drowning out all the bad news with the help of MSM. Don’t let it happen. Keep your letters on the Health care monstrosity. Keep your calls about how much money this will cost and how care has to suffer - the numbers don’t lie. 30 Million new patients and only hundreds of doctors to take them.

What is he thinking? It’s obvious. He’s trying to destroy the United States of America, and doing a pretty good job of it so far.

Obama Pledges Cuts in Missile Defense, Space, and Nuclear Weapons Programs

February 29, 2008 :: News
MissileThreat.com

A video has surfaced of Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama talking on his plans for strategic issues such as nuclear weapons and missile defense.

The full text from the video, as released, reads as follows:

Thanks so much for the Caucus4Priorities, for the great work you've been doing. As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.

First, I'll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[i.e. not win it]

Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.

I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.

I will not weaponize space.

I will slow our development of future combat systems.

And I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.

Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert [they are NOT on "hair-trigger alert" now -etl], and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.

You know where I stand. I've fought for open, ethical and accountable government my entire public life. I don't switch positions or make promises that can't be kept. I don't posture on defense policy and I don't take money from federal lobbyists for powerful defense contractors. As president, my sole priority for defense spending will be protecting the American people. Thanks so much.

2008 Pentagon Report (March 2008):
China's Growing Military Space Power

By Leonard David
Special Correspondent, SPACE.com
March 6, 2008

GOLDEN, Colorado — A just-released Pentagon report spotlights a growing U.S. military concern that China is developing a multi- dimensional program to limit or prevent the use of space-based assets by its potential adversaries during times of crisis or conflict.

Furthermore, last year's successful test by China of a direct-ascent, anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon to destroy its own defunct weather satellite, the report adds, underscores that country's expansion from the land, air, and sea dimensions of the traditional battlefield into the space and cyber-space domains.

Although China's commercial space program has utility for non- military research, that capability demonstrates space launch and control know-how that have direct military application. Even the Chang'e 1 — the Chinese lunar probe now circling the Moon — is flagged in the report as showcasing China's ability "to conduct complicated space maneuvers — a capability which has broad implications for military counterspace operations."
