Hitler was inspired by the mufti of Jerusalem, Hajj Amin al-Husseini, who was an officer of the Ottoman Empire who participated in the Armenian genocide, and who during World War II met with Hitler and frequently with high Nazi officials.

During the Nuremberg Trials in July 1946, Adolf Eichmann’s assistant, Dieter Wisliczeny, testified that mufti was a central figure in the planning of the genocide of the Jews: “The Grand Mufti has repeatedly suggested to the Nazi authorities -- including Hitler, von Ribbentrop and Himmler -- the extermination of European Jewry...

Why is the Armenian Genocide commemorated on April 24?
On the night of April 24, 1915, the Turkish government placed under arrest over 200 Armenian community leaders in Constantinople. Hundreds more were apprehended soon after. They were all sent to prison in the interior of Anatolia, where most were summarily executed. The Young Turk regime had long been planning the Armenian Genocide and reports of atrocities being committed against the Armenians in the eastern war zones had been filtering in during the first months of 1915. The Ministry of War had already acted on the government's plan by disarming the Armenian recruits in the Ottoman Army, reducing them to labor battalions and working them under conditions equaling slavery. The incapacitation and methodic reduction of the Armenian male population, as well as the summary arrest and execution of the Armenian leadership marked the earliest stages of the Armenian Genocide. These acts were committed under the cover of a news blackout on account of the war and the government proceeded to implement its plans to liquidate the Armenian population with secrecy. Therefore, the Young Turks regime's true intentions went undetected until the arrests of April 24. As the persons seized that night included the most prominent public figures of the Armenian community in the capital city of the Ottoman Empire, everyone was alerted about the dimensions of the policies being entertained and implemented by the Turkish government. Their death presaged the murder of an ancient civilization. April 24 is, therefore, commemorated as the date of the unfolding of the Armenian Genocide.

Highly complex subject ~ but let's get this straight ~ the Nazis were not inspired by the Turks but by the British.

Earlier the Brits had devised "concentration camps" where they placed Boor women, children and elderly people ~ I gather the idea was to hold them hostage until the men gave up.

What happened is just this side of Hades ~ as had happened earlier when the Brits put the Acadian settlers on board prison barges tens of thousands of innocent people died in the camps ~ of disease, of mistreatment, of whatever it is that happens to people kept in miserable conditions with bad food and no modern medicine or toilet facilities.

The Brits invented and practiced genocide against Acadians and Boors long before the Nazis started doing the same.

The Ottomans did something equally evil ~ they "transported" millions of men, women and children on foot through desolate countryside over inadequate roads and paths without food, water, normal civilized comforts and so forth.

When that happens people die in great numbers and all military commanders know it.

In brief, to bring you all up to date on the "Theory and Practice of Hell" you can kill vast numbers of innocent people by taking them out of their homes and setting them in miserable camps. You can kill vast numbers of innocent people by putting them on the road on foot for hundreds of miles.

There are other methods. Those two are apparently the least costly.

Some of my Scottish ancestors were put on board prison barges, transported to America, and dumped into Smugglers Creek just off the Potomac River ~ they were naked and still in chains at the end of the trip. Most of their fellows had died on the way.

Most populations under severe authoritarian or totalitarian rule usually see no reason whatsoever to apologize for the actions taken by their former dictators.

It's like none of us will apologize for the crimes commited by Obama and his running dog lackeys.

The Turks were just one of a number of different ethnic groups who were part of the Ottoman Empire. Yet, you don't see the Iraqis, Iranians, Afghanis, Pakistanis, Uzbeks, Kazakhs, Israelis, Greeks, Serbians, Croatians, Montenegrans, Albanians, Egyptians, Tunisians, Algerians, Moroccans and Spaniards issuing apologies for crimes commited by the Islamic Caliphate, or "Ottoman Empire" as it later became known.

Those other people were oppressed by the Ottoman Turks, but no attempt was made to exterminate them.
There is no analogy between them and the Armenians/ Chaldean Christians/ Assyrian Christians and Greeks in Anatolia.

You really don't get to get away with that. Turkish speaking people in Turkey were made up of a population with a very broad spectrum of ancestors from throughout the Mediterranean.

You became a "Turk" by learning the language, becoming a Moslem, and paying whatever taxes were due. That lead to an influx of Arabs, Berbers, Copts, Greeks, Slavs and Persians ~ over a very long period of time.

The original Celtic population occupying Anatolia at the time of the coming of the Seljuk Turks didn't get exterminated ~ they were assimilated. From that point on, as the Empire expanded into territory formerly ruled by Greeks, Arabs, Persians and Egyptians, you had a spread of the language, culture and ethnic affiliations.

Even Armenians turned into good little Turks over the centuries of nominally Turkish rule.

If we are to hold the present day population of the core Turkish speaking area solely responsible for the misdeeds of the ancient regime, we do a grave injustice to them. We must hold their close DNA relatives equally guilty and demand apologies from them ~ even from the Greeks!

Because they were Christians and not Muslims they were Non-Turks and Non-Persons.

And this is a pattern replicated in every area where the indigenous population was originally non-Islamic and Muslims intruded. The persecution of non-Muslims becomes so severe as the percentage of Muslims increases, that more and more non-Muslims are forced to become Muslims in order to be treated as human beings.

That happened to all the indigenous people of Turkey.

And that will happen in the west and in the U.S. if we continue to extend to this virulent political, social, and economic cult the protection we extend to other pure religions.

In Islamic societies - and Turkey IS an Islamic society - culture, legalities, and religion are all enmeshed and not distinguished.

Unlike most monotheistic religions, pagans are generally pretty tolerant of other beliefs and more than willing to incorporate other people’s God’s into their own pantheon or practises if they feel they have useful powers.

Yes.

Perhaps, but under what circumstances? Losing their heads?

Hardly. The Byzantines put up a truly heroic rear-guard action against Islam, blocking its expansion into Europe before the rape of Constantinople. If there is any blame to be assigned to Byzantium, it was thier intolerance of other Christian religious streams which differed from the Orthodox, and led some non-Orthodox Christian popualtions to intially welcome Islamic overlords. In time, they learned that their initial pleasure was misplaced.

The Turks existed long before Islam came around. In fact, one of the ruling dynasties in Northern India headquartered itself in what is now Bhutan. They produced, among others we know about, Buddha!

Later on they were driven from India and returned to Yakutia, now part of Russia. By 560 AD they were invading Korea and Japan.

There is a large Turkish element in both Korean and Japanese languages.

The Seljuks were just another bunch of Turks from the steppes and plains of Western Asia, not much different than the Yakuts. At some point they managed to encounter the dominant population of Anatolia and became a serious threat to the Middle East.

They were then "converted to Islam" by Moslem missionaries. I do believe that tamed them down a bit.

In fact, as they moved West they managed to disrupt the tourist trade Egypt maintained for Moslem and Christian visitors to Jerusalem. One thing led to another and next thing you know the French sent in an army This period is called The Crusades (just a minor historical point). The important thing was the Seljuks arrived in the Middle East anyway and started screwing up stuff right off the bat and were not beyond stepping on Moslem toes.

The Byzantine Armies the earlier Arab Moslems had encountered (in the 700s) converted because the Arabs, crafty devils that they are, PAID them ~ something Byzantium had neglected to do for over a century!

Well, I agree with most of what you are saying.

Some central Asian Turks actually formed a large contingent of Genghis Khan’s armies and the armies of his successors.
