“He told the audience the blame for the impasse over unemployment benefits lies squarely with Pelosi, because she rejected a bi-partisan senate compromise to pay for a two week extension.
“The speaker’s words back (to the Senate) is ‘they don’t want to set a precedent that they have to pay for new spending,’” Coburn said to a laughing crowd. “That’s the truth. That’s the words. So I want to set that precedent.”

If that is kissing her ass, I would hate to see him get mad. Booing and hissing at the mention of someone’s name isn’t going to get anything done. I don’t know why or when it became impossible to dislike someone’s policies while not passing judgment on the person as a whole. I still think it is possible.

Ted Bundy were also “nice people”...

He was a sweetheart. The judge who sentenced him to death said so.

I'll give him a pass for being a conservative gentleman.

Fewer conservative gentlemen, more NeoCavemen.

I think part of what he may be doing is to help our cause? So that Pelosi and the media can’t say he is vilifying them. It won’t work BTW. They play with a different set of rules on the Dem side.

Who cares if she’s nice? We’re not having lunch with her. We’re having to watch her try to destroy the country. Nice indeed!

“Like Don Nickles and Jim Inhofe, Coburn’ll have his job for as long as he wants it.”

I wouldn’t throw him over; but there’s no harm in asking him, “Senator, what were you thinking?!”

BTW I think Don Nickles was in a class of his own. His retirement was truly a loss for the country.

Tom Coburn was always teaming up with legislation with President Obama when he was in the U.S. Senate. When he was first elected to the presidency, he didn’t want to say anything mean about the new president. It shows that Senator Coburn has become an elitist. Not many senators you can count on these days.

What a joke...in the history of the world there are few, if any, votes that are better litmus tests.

Most of them are big government. Vote them all out.

If that is the tack you want to take fine. But the bailout vote really doesn’t tell you much in contrast to anyone else in the senate. And his actions in most every other respect show a highly conservative voting record.

Yes but calling that communist skank a nice person is crazy.

So you don’t think a woman who tries to incite hatred between American citizens exercising their right to peaceful assembly (calling tea partiers Nazis), lying by suggesting we are violent extremists, and otherwise attempting to turn Americans against one another in potentially violent fashion (trying to cause a “racial incident” on the way to sign the bill)...

You don’t see this woman as an enemy to America?

You can’t be serious.

"I guess the next time someone on here asks what state has the two best senators, Oklahoma won’t be winning."

Even with the recent statements of Senator Coburn (who is no doubt getting an earful from his constituents), Oklahoma still has the two best senators. Disagree? Then name them.

""The intention is not to put anybody in jail," he said."

Dr. Ferris smiled. . . . . ."We've waited a long time to get something on you. You honest men are such a problem and such a headache. But we knew you'd slip sooner or later - and this is just what we wanted."

"You seem to be pleased about it."

"Don't I have good reason to be?"

"But, after all, I did break one of your laws."

"Well, what do you think they're for?"

Dr. Ferris did not notice the sudden look on Rearden's face, the look of a man hit by the first vision of that which he had sought to see. Dr. Ferris was past the stage of seeing; he was intent upon delivering the last blows to an animal caught in a trap.

"Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them broken.

You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against - then you'll know that this is not the age for beautiful gestures. We're after power and we mean it. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and you'd better get wise to it. There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt.

Now, that's the system, Mr. Rearden, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with."
