Tea Party Express PAC Outlines 2010 Targets
Blogs.ABC NEWS.com - The Note ^ | April 15, 2010 2:09 PM | ABC News’ Teddy Davis and Matt Loffman report

Posted on 04/16/2010 1:04:55 AM PDT by Cindy

SNIPPET: "The leadership of the Tea Party Express PAC came to the National Press Club on Thursday to herald its early successes and to unveil its expanded list of 2010 electoral targets."

SNIPPET: "In an effort to show that the Tea Party Express PAC is not a “tool” of the Republican Party, but instead is an independent political force, Russo announced that the PAC is getting behind one conservative Democrat who has opposed President Obama’s agenda: Rep. Walt Minnick (ID-01).

The decision to get behind Minnick is attention-grabbing because Republicans have fielded a strong candidate in that race: Iraq war vet Vaughn Ward..."

SNIPPET: "Republican Iraq war vet Vaughn Ward is responding to the Tea Party Express PAC’s endorsement of Rep. Walt Minnick, D-Idaho, by reminding voters of the more liberal aspects of Minnick’s record.

“This endorsement does not change the fact that Walt Minnick’s first vote in Congress was for Nancy Pelosi and her liberal agenda of higher taxes, more spending, and a more intrusive federal government that has done nothing to get Idaho families back to work,” said Ward in a written statement provided to ABC News. “When Walt had the chance to step up to the plate for Idaho families, he voted against permanently ending the financial bailouts and voted for a permanent extension of the death tax. Walt Minnick and Nancy Pelosi’s tax and spend policies continue to cripple our economy.""

Rep. Walt Minnick (ID) backs prisoner swap for Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl
Idaho Statesman ^ | 4/9/2010 | Kathleen Kreller
Posted on April 9, 2010 10:24:33 AM PDT by Domandred

The U.S. government should work out a prisoner trade with the terrorist group holding Pfc. Bowe Bergdahl of Hailey hostage, Rep. Walt Minnick, D-Idaho, said Thursday.

In an appearance on Nate Shelman’s afternoon show on 670 KBOI, Minnick said, “What the family and what I am hoping for is that we can work out some kind of a prisoner trade that down the road might release him but do it in a way that we get him back, but we aren’t trading a thousand for one.”

The Taliban released a video Wednesday in which Bergdahl pleaded for his freedom, saying that he wanted to return to his family in Hailey and that the war in Afghanistan is not worth the number of lives that have been lost or wasted in prison. At the end of the video, a speaker demanded the release of a limited number of prisoners in exchange for Bergdahl.

If there was any question at all that Minnick really was a whacko liberal pretending to be a blue dog democrat this should answer it.
The United States does not negotiate with terrorists.

Swapping prisoners is a bad, bad idea an only emboldens the scum into taking more hostages to swap with.

Vaughn Ward, Rep. Walt Minnick spar over money from Rep. Charles Rangel (Idaho 1st CD)
Idaho Statesman: Because Your Parakeet Deserves Only The Best ^ | 6 Mar 2009 | Dan Popkey

Rep. Walt Minnick, D-Idaho, has announced the list of charities that will receive $10,000 Minnick got from Rep. Charles Rangel’s National Leadership PAC for the 2008 election.

Rangel, D-N.Y., stepped down as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Wednesday, after he was admonished last week for taking two corporate-sponsored trips to the Caribbean in violation of House rules.

Meanwhile, Republican challenger Vaughn Ward said Minnick should donate an additional $44,290 in contributions collected from individuals and political action committees in 2008 by another Rangel group, the Rangel Victory Fund, and transferred to Minnick.

This is the problem with “organizations” rather then grass roots efforts. An organization is concerned with how fair they’re going to be perceived so they feel compelled to find at least one Democrat they can support. They are willing to compromise principles for the sake of perception. A grass root effort just want the stupid people gone no matter what. They don’t care how people will perceive them.

If the Tea Party turns into an organization it will fail.

As expected, the TPE becomes more committed to its own perpetuation than to its supposed cause. Shark jumped.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 5, 2008
“Minnick Win Marks Pro-Choice Pick-Up in Congress”

SNIPPET: “Success in Idaho represents strong voter support for the values of freedom and privacy

Washington, DC – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, praised the voters of Idaho’s 1st Congressional District for electing NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC-endorsed candidate Walt Minnick, who defeated anti-choice Bill Sali.

“Minnick’s victory is a sign that voters are tired of the divisive attacks of the past and are ready for a change,” Keenan said. “Voters want leaders like Walt Minnick who will defend women’s reproductive freedom while uniting behind commonsense, common-ground proposals, like better access to birth control, that would prevent unintended pregnancies and thus reduce the need for abortion. We look forward to working with Minnick to stand up for the pro-choice values that the voters in Idaho support.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC endorsed Minnick and contributed $5,000 to his campaign. Throughout the 2008 election cycle, NARAL Pro-Choice America communicated with 625 member-activists in Idaho’s 1st Congressional District.”

“Tea party endorsement catches Democrat Walt Minnick, his challengers off-guard”
BY ERIKA BOLSTAD
Published: 04/16/10

WASHINGTON -

SNIPPET: “Tea Party Express announced its slate of endorsements - and targets - at a rally in Washington held to mark the April 15 federal income tax deadline.

“We can’t be just a Republican organization. We’ve got to be an influential force in both political parties,” said Sal Russo, a veteran GOP political consultant and one of the forces behind the Tea Party Express. “We have to reward some Democrats that have been willing to stand with us on the tough issues.”

But a Boise tea party organizer said local leaders weren’t consulted about the Minnick endorsement, and they were puzzled by it.”

More on Walt Minnick, Democrat:

“Tea Party Express Endorses Walt Minnick (D-ID)”
Posted by streiff
Thursday, April 15th at 1:30PM EDT

SNIPPET: “Minnick voted for a wide range of big government programs. As a sampler he voted to expand SCHIP. He voted to kill Jeff Flake’s resolution restricting earmarks. He voted to kill the resolution that would have removed Charlie Rangel from his committee chairmanship. He voted against the RSC blueprint to reduce the budget.

Moreover, Minnick’s first vote in Congress when elected in 2008 was for Nancy Pelosi as speaker. His first vote in the next Congress, if reelected, will be the same.

All of these votes belabor the obvious. Walt Minnick is a Democrat who votes in a Democrat way with the Democrat caucus.

When you compare Minnick’s record with the GOP candidates, Vaughn Ward and Raul Labrador, it becomes crystal clear who the conservatives and small government advocates are in this race.

The Tea Party Express has to know this and encouraging their members to support… and send money to… a man who will vote for Pelosi as Speaker and big government programs should be unconscionable.”

SNIPPET: “Democrats control the executive and legislative branches of the federal government, and they have been relentlessly forcing socialism down the craw of the American people because progressives are in total control of the Democrat Party.

To solve the problem, simply vote out the Democrats and strip the power from the progressives. So what in the name of Sam Hill are the leaders of the Tea Party Express trying to prove by endorsing Idaho Democrat Walt Minnick for Congress?”

“Tea Party Express endorses Minnick?”

SNIPPET: “Minnick is apart of the problem, not a solution. We have several Conservative Republicans running in this district, to provide the residents of this district with 100% Conservative representation in Congress, instead of 30 or 40%. The Tea Party Express is endorsing a Democrat to fight off rumors of being a “GOP” operation, but what happens when Tea Partiers playing “politics as usual” hurts the Nation at large?”

SNIPPET: “Disgraceful.”

“Welcome to the Tea Party Comrade Minnick”
POSTED BY NATHANIEL HOFFMAN ON FRI, APR 16, 2010 AT 5:26 PM

SNIPPET: “Prior to the march, a national group that hitched its wagon to the tea party train—The Tea Party Express—released a list of congressional targets and heroes. Idaho Rep. Walt Minnick made the list of tea party heroes, an announcement met with surprise (then incredulity, mockery and incomprehension) from multiple corners, starting with the Minnick campaign itself.

“Um, sure,” Minnick spokesman John Foster replied when the a href=”http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/15/walt-minnick-tea-party-en_n_538837.html";> Huffington Post asked if the campaign was accepting the Tea Party’s backing. “Walt is not in the habit of turning down support,” Foster continued.”

SNIPPET: “Foster said Minnick has some rapport with local tea party activists. He also said he spoke with a representative of the Tea Party Express today who told him they’d looked at all the Blue Dog Democrats and decided that Minnick was the only one worth endorsing, particularly for his anti-earmark stance.”

SNIPPET: “That’s not exactly how Smerz, who said he resents the “government takeover of everything,” (not to mention the “socialist” bomb above) characterizes it.

“They just seem to have their hands on everything and I don’t think it’s necessary, we should do it ourselves,” Smerz told citydesk.

Moreover, the national Tea Party Express, which is run by establishment GOP operatives, never asked the local tea partiers their opinion on Minnick.

“We at Tea Party Boise were not consulted or given the opp for giving our input to Tea Party Express,” Smerz said. The local “party” has not endorsed any candidates, though they will publish candidate surveys on April 24.”

SNIPPET: “Ward said he’s running for the tea party vote too.

“I think that any candidate in Idaho would be foolish not to look at them as a strong voting block,” Ward told citydesk.

Ward said he shares many tea party stances including limited government, accountability and the fact the “the Constitution does matter.””

“Dan Popkey: Idaho candidates adopt tea party line
Idaho’s hottest race features three men who say they’ll do the most to balance the federal budget.”
BY DAN POPKEY
Published: 04/18/10

SNIPPET: “Ward, the GOP front-runner challenging Minnick, has minimized that record, saying Minnick’s vote to re-elect Speaker Nancy Pelosi is what really counts. Ward aspires to be part of new GOP majority that would control Congress, balance the budget and repeal the health care law.

DECADES OF SACRIFICE IN VAIN?

A Marine reservist who won a Bronze Star for valor in Iraq in 2006, Ward says the country faces a crisis that could undo everything attained since its founding.”

SNIPPET: “Minnick says he didn’t seek out the Tea Party Express endorsement but said he’s “delighted” the movement has raised the profile of the national debt.”
