Yeah, you’re missing that this article is from the John Birch Society tinfoil hat brigade.

Though suspicious to us, on the right -— I seriously doubt this would be aimed at law-abiding folks. Scary for anyone that DARE question the regime... but questioning is within our first amendment rights. Threratening harm or acting out, is not.

Guessing you haven't gotten Jan's DHS memos.

Serious business in this legislation. I am very surprised at Inhofe. He has been a straight arrow on all things before. ... I would not trust a “Good” President with this power much less the “Resident” of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Thanks for going to the trouble to post the relevant text from the bill. I agree with you. This is both dangerous and stupid on the part of these "sponsors", and I too am completely puzzled why Inhofe would do this.

The dangerous part comes from the fact that we all ought to know by now, from bitter experience, that it doesn't matter a hill of beans what the stated intent or reassurances of those pushing these statist measures are. The only thing that matters is what the actual words on the page will allow if those in power can twist them to other meanings.

If the language allows it, it's a dead certainty they will at some point do it.

The stupid aspect is that it's completely unnecessary. We already had all the authority, legal tools and procedures in place for dealing with enemy combatants (what is the difference between "enemy combatants" and "enemy belligerents" anyway?) under the Geneva Conventions, dating back to WWII. George Bush stupidly caved to the media and Dem pressure over the Guantanamo prisoners and allowed the courts and lawyers to wreck that. And, to top it off, McCain helped them do it. This legislation appears to be nothing more than a clumsy and dangerous attempt to reassert that authority which was foolishly surrendered.

So, you don't believe we are being victimized by globalist Marxists who are stripping us of our Sovereignties?

Have you checked your program, lately?

Must you hijack this thread with your inane personal attacks on Rabs?

No one is forcing you to click on any of his threads. You obviously do not like him, so enough already.

This thread has a lot of good discussion points on it, until you show up.

We are not interested in your personal vendetta.

If the owner of this forum has an issue with Rabs, he knows where to contact him and how to straighten it out.

Do you realize where this source is from?

You might want to check. If that's a personal attack, so be it.

Do you have any idea how unhinged the Birch Society is?

I dislike what's going on as much as you, but getting info from this source is like DU thinking Olberman is the best source on cable news.

You discredit your argument using an anti war, fringe
organization for your source.

The source is not banned from this forum. The source is not factually incorrect. So what is the problem?

Check your own posts on this thread—the source is not the issue you are most concerned with.

IF you have a take on the subject at hand, let’s hear it.

Do you realize where this source is from? You might want to check.

The text of the bill, as taken from THOMAS.LOC.gov, which is authoritative, as a U.S. Federal government Web site, is posted at 50, thanks to Texas Fossil.

Do you want to dispute the assertion that the language, as penned by McCain (and posted at 50), or agents thereof, is so excessively vague that conservatives, libertarians, and Tea Party participants could be deemed "enemy belligerents" by Obama, or any of his successors?

I know that the Birch Society’s Robert Welch had it right, in perhaps his most famous speech.

You discredit your argument using an anti war, fringe organization for your source.

The text of the bill, as taken from THOMAS.LOC.gov, which is neither "anti war" nor "fringe," has been posted on this thread at 50.

Maybe you should go read it instead of continuing to babble.

Yeah, the source is a problem for me, and it should be a problem any sane conservative.

If you want to believe the most unhinged fools in the US outside of KOS and DU, just keep on going there and see where it gets you. These are the kind of people that believe the moon landing was staged.

OK, the source is a problem for you.

The source did get it right, though, as shown by post 50 by Texas Fossil.

Forgive the phrase, but let’s move on, shall we?

I am interested in your take on this legislation. What do you think of it?
