My wife has discovered that P&G's Cascade started reformulating in March. And as your chief cook and bottle-washer will soon discover, it is not the dishwasher that is leaving a white residue on all the glassware, it is the lack of phosphates in your favorite dishsoap.
Stock up now! They did this in CA didn’t they and they were crossing the borders for phosphate IIRC.
Well, yes... on with better substitute alternatives. Perhaps carbon trading is not so important for survival in the CO2 data corrupted world, while phosphate clearly is, and alternatives are warranted.
However, phosphates must be mined as there are no other ways to get it. Alternatives must encompass only substitutes for phosphates. We need better substitutes than the ones presently used.
Unmentioned are world military uses of phosphates...their use is increasing.
In sum, no alternates for phosphate exist..it is produced only by mining. Only substitutes must be considered and developed. Phosphate cannot be manufactured.
Time your dishwasher and put about 1/4 cup white vinegar in the rinse...sparkling dishes, I’ve been doing thid for years because we have such hard water, and it’s cheaper than the dishwasher rinses.

Ever heard of Julian Simon? Look him up. He devoted much of his life to pointing out (correctly) that every single prediction of impending disaster due to shortage of a particular commodity turned out to be wrong.
I think you are speaking about the “Peak Phosphate” theory, which a number of people are supporting. But just a point, Florida is not the only supplier, there a huge mines, for example, in Idaho.

Expect EPA storm troopers to be breaking down your door looking for incandescent light bulbs, illegal high flush toilets and now phosphates. I wonder if they will also be asking for our papers?

OMG, this is the reason I am having to run the dishwasher twice, first with the detergent and then again just cycle through with water only.

There is a group that was in Popular science or popular mechanics that had developed a way to process phosphorus out of human waste. The price wasn’t competitive to the mined product, but the technology is there.

True, but hindsight never guaranteed a future. It would be nice indeed, if more phosphate were found adequate for all anticipated future needs. Mere discovery of phosphate does not guarantee use as the EPA and other federal agencies have a lid on mining, especially open pit mining as exists with phosphates.
If you hit Costco in the next few days, you should be able to score a pallet of the old stuff that will keep your dishes sparkling for a century...
Then again, you could always try the old standard elbow grease. Who needs a dishwasher if they have kids??
