Obama notes things hard to find, keep: 'love and a birth certificate'

By Bridget Johnson and Kevin Bogardus - 05/01/10 10:41 PM ET

President Barack Obama took shots at his poll drops, birthers, death panels, and Arizona's new immigration law on Saturday night.

Obama opened for comedian Jay Leno at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, noting that Leno was the "only person whose ratings fell more than mine.

"I'm also glad I'm speaking first, because we've all seen what happens when someone takes the time slot after Leno," Obama said in reference to the Conan O'Brien "Tonight Show" fiasco.

But, the president joked, "I know my approval ratings are still very high in the country of my birth."

Leno prodded back at Obama when it was his turn at bat. First up: the controversy over Obama's plans with the space program.

"We can point to one achievement during his administration," Leno said. "We did get one astronaut on 'Dancing on the Stars.'"

"He loves to socialize," Leno added of the president. "Healthcare. Car companies."

*snip*

"And we all know what happens in Arizona when you don't have ID," Obama said, taking a shot at the controversial law that has sparked protests -- and calls on Capitol Hill to move on immigration reform. "Adios amigos!"

But instead, the president focused on the domestic priority that he spent much of his term thus far getting pushed through.

"There aren't a few secret provisions in the healthcare plan," Obama said. "There are, like, hundreds."

I don’t see any jokes in that, just truths.

If I’m not mistaken, that’s pretty much mandatory for Presidents. I’m talking about the talk show circuit.

Gotta admit, this stuff is actually funny. I’m surprised that Zero has the courage to mock himself like that.

Okay...none of those "jokes" were funny. But then it takes very little to amuse liberals about the destruction of America.

Let's get the FReepathon over!

Isn’t it funny how President Bush never did any of this crap?

Good Lord. Would everybody just calm the heck down?

ALL modern presidents have participated in these "roasts". It's gotten to be something of a tradition now, and they all crack mocking jokes on themselves.

That includes GWB. I can recall laughing my ass off at some of the jokes Dubya told on himself.

I remember the ridiculous Video that the Bush White House put together showing them looking under the furniture for WMD’s.

It was tasteless and gave the Libtards all the ammo they could ever want. I felt embarrassed watching it at the time.

The Clinton Video where he packs Hillary's brown bag lunch as she leaves for the Senate was actually pretty funny. When Don Imus grilled Clinton at the Dinner, I thought he was way out of line. But then, I never really cared for Imus either.

I don't begrudge the Boy King his stand up routine, but I didn't watch it by choice. I can't stand the sight of the guy because I know what a total fraud he really is. He puts the F in Phony...

When you mentioned socialist, it reminded me that Leno did a little riff on that fact

I looked and couldn't find it, then gave up and stumbled across it Here

Although his poll numbers are down, Obama said he hears he's popular on Twitter and Facebook. "Or as Sarah Palin call it, socialized media," he said.

Leno picked up on this joke to take a dig at Obama, saying the president isn't as aloof as some critics say he is. "He loves to socialize - health care, car companies," Leno said, naming a few industries in which the Obama administration has intervened.

"Intervened" yea right.

SOCIALIZED!

Funny that they can admit it with jokes, but call them Socialists and they throw a fit

Agreed. I can sit here on FR and read about Bozo's comic routine, but I could never sit still to watch it. I simply cannot watch or listen to him, knowing the evil that he truly is.

Difference is Obama uses it to put others down. He rarely if ever mocks himself.

That's true, but tonight he made himself the butt of his jokes.

We know that he was just telling jokes that his script-writers wrote, but they came off really funny, because there's so much truth at the core of them.

Believe me, I know that Obama himself is no joking matter.

I’ve watched it in the past and will probably watch the reruns. He is LOUSY and has no sense of humor. His timing is off and his delivery is awful (at least during the last one I saw).

One thing I've noticed in this life, is that people who possess true greatness all have the ability to make others laugh.

It's not surprising to me that Zero's comic timing and delivery is bad. He's does not possess true greatness. Not even close.
