On Cinco de Mayo, five northern Californial high school students came to school in red, white and blue, and got a very public lesson in school politics and free speech.
The boys came to Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill on the Mexican holiday, wearing t-shirts, shorts and shoes emblazoned with American flags.
Around 10 a.m., the assistant principal told sophomore Matthew Dariano he had to remove his bandana, which is against school policy.
But then Dariano said the assistant principal told all him and all his friends to take off their shirts, or turn them inside out, because some Hispanic students were upset and the school feared it would start a fight. Dariano is part Mexican.
"Our Hispanic vice principal was taking their side, and was thinking that we were being racist towards them, so he was discriminating against us, making us take off our stuff," Dariano said.
"We're not trying to start trouble," said student Austin Carvalho. "We're in America. We can't wear our own colors?"
The boys refused to take off the shirts. They were not suspended, but they were sent home.

BTW, the continued irony of this is the 5th of May is not that big a deal in Mexico.

This is one more degree on the little frog sitting in the water as it comes to a boil.... when will our citizen wake up and realize what is going on? I am seriously worried that nothing short of a total collapse or thousands of deaths will cause anyone to pay attention to this danger on our borders....
This is an absolute OUTRAGE.
If I lived there, I would gather every Tea Partier and 9/12 groups I could find to protest at the District Administration Offices. These are the kinds of things we MUST take immediate action against. Those kids were patriots and NEED our support!

If I was the mother of any of those boys, I would enlist every other American parent to show up with signs about Freedom of Speech at that school, and stay for at least one full day.If any of the boys is suspended or kicked out, a tremendous law suit would ensue!
Requesting that any student remove articles of clothing smacks of some type of sexual abuse\perversion. The assistant principal should be charged with a sex crime
In any case, charging him thusly would force him to further state the REAL reason for his request.
If they want to make a big deal out of this, I say, let’s do it...
I heard on the news this morning that the school district has sided with the students and released a statement denouncing the principal’s decision.

Last night, all the local MSM outlets were mentioning the Assistant Pricipal’s name. This morning, all local MSM reports I’ve heard have scrubbed the Asst. Principal’s name out of their reporting. Interesting to note the Assistant Principal’s name is Miguel Rodriguez.
If its okay to wear a Mexican flag its okay to wear a US flag

I came to this country from Europe and my kids and I are now proud Americans, and good for those kids doing what they did.

It appears, judging by their names, that the students wearing the American flag shirts were also Hispanic.
