Control failure? Many of these vessels now have something more than a cable contol system. Either air or electronic are common and they do have failures.

Both pneumatic (air pressure) control and electronic have fail-safes that default to idle speed on the engines and neutral for the transmissions.

If you have the standard Westinghouse air controls, the moment the air pressure drops, whether by leak/breakage or via the bridge controls, everything drops to neutral. It has been a reliable safety feature for over 50 years.

Been there...done that.

CNN BREAKING NEWS: Staten Island Ferry Crash, 60 Injured--TERRORIST RELATED??

"A woman waiting at the ferry terminal told NY1 that a “black plume of smoke” emerged from the back of the ferry boat."

A North Korean 2 man submarine is suspected as having fired the torpedo after the crew had a lunch break at Coney Island.

Bush is to blame for NK`s taking revenge for lack of of kimchee for the Coney Island hot dogs.

I don’t think the jihadis are using some 1930s movie serial energy beam to disable ferry boat controls. Either it’s poor maintenence or pilot error or both. There are layoffs coming in the Apple and this may be someone’s idea of resistance.

Captain gave a "RED" warning about one minute before crash. Definitely a malfunction.
Crew actually was able to get many people back from the crash.

Report: Staten Island Ferry on terror hit list
Staten Island’s iconic Ferry may have been in the cross-hairs of Times Square

terror suspect Faisal Shahzad.

A hand-drawn map of the ferry — as well as the nearby Bowling Green subway

station and the Lexington Avenue lines that serve it — was found on a Metro-

North train heading for Connecticut, according to a television report. The map

was believed to be the work of Shahzad, who lives in the Nutmeg State.

The ferry’s high-recognition value makes it a tempting target for would-be

terrorists. In the aftermath of 9/11, the U.S. Coast Guard began monitoring the

threat level, and dogs were employed to sniff for bombs.
As soon as we got to the port it just slammed right into the dock and pushed

everybody back. It was chaos, pandemonium. It was something like I’ve never

been through in my life,” ferry passenger Alex Gonzalez told NY1.
Damage control mode for Obama, news is reporting the ‘story will be it was a

steering issue, but CNN reported it is a ‘throttle issue’....

But keep up with the ‘minimalist’ theory it works for some..

Have they released the name of the Captain yet? Why was there no warning until just prior to crash? Did Capt not see they were approaching the dock?
