Rule change favors unions at airlines, railroads (makes union organizing easier - Payback.)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- In a major victory for organized labor, unions will have an easier time signing up airline and railroad workers after the Obama administration Monday changed a 76-year-old rule on union elections.

The change is the most significant so far in a string of White House moves designed to boost unions, which are struggling to reverse years of decline in membership.

The new rule, announced by the three-member National Mediation Board, would recognize a union if a simple majority of workers who cast ballots approve organizing. The previous rule required a majority of the entire work force to favor unionizing. That meant workers choosing not to vote at all were effectively counted as "no" votes.

Airlines that fought the change say it will lead to more labor disputes that could disrupt commerce and increase delays in an industry already reeling from recession, higher fuel costs and stepped-up security measures.

NO! That would be reactionary and counter-progressive and unprecedented!!!

When Republicans overturn law, it's heresy! You see??

Basically, if they don’t invite the people that they KNOW are going to vote “no” to the union, they can still get the union by simply having those present vote “yes.”

Kind of like the last one at the meeting is given all the work - well you should have been on time!

You get a union, well you should have voted no! But I didn’t know a vote was happening, oh well - congratulations, we are now going to start taking union dues out of your paycheck!

So a minority of workers can force the majority to be members of a union.

This is a breathtaking assault on the long established rights of workers and employers.

This is government sponsored tyranny.

I'm talking about all over. This is sooooo easy to scam. You won't know when there was a vote.

This horrible action was taken by another unelected, Scotus approved, unconstitutional bureaucracy called the National Mediation Board.

There is nothing the GOP can do about it until President Christie is inaugurated in 2013.

would recognize a union if a simple majority of workers who cast ballots approve organizing.

Parse that phrase VERY CAREFULLY! This is essentially what was done to those child care workers in Michigan. They sent out ballots to several thousand people which probably looked like disposable junk mail. Only a few hundred responded (the union activists who were told to look out for it) Since a simple majority of those responding voted yes, they are all now in a union.

This is just what happened in Michigan when a new Union, "Child Care Providers Together Michigan" of Child Day Care providers was created by a compliant state government working with the AFL-CIO. A majority vote from 6000 union publicized ballots FORCED Unionization and UNION DUES upon a community of 40,000 providers. Now Michigan EXTRACTS the Union Dues from the state reimbursements and funnels these monies to this 'independent' union!
