In college Elena Kagan wrote an essay lamenting Republican gains in the 1980 election and referring to candidates backed by the Moral Majority as "avengers of 'innocent life' and the B-1 bomber."
Now that Kagan stands as a nominee to join the Supreme Court, some conservatives believe the 30-year-old remark may reveal a personal animosity toward their side of the abortion rights cause.
But liberal activists also wonder about Kagan's position. They point to memos she wrote as a policy staffer in the Clinton White House urging President Clinton to take a compromise position on some late-term abortions.

I find it amazing that the Left actually thinks they can convince us she’s moderate. They act as if the are the only news sources again-!! Must be wishful delusion-!
How about we pass on investigating if she is gay, and her abortion stance.
Let’s focus on her radical leftist mindset
Yep, any leftist dribble that comes from this bench should call for impeachment, and be personally delivered to any supporting confirmation vote by Democrats and RINO’s for explanation and Congressional resignation. Given a specific case, one could easily guess the justification of wrong to be written, though other times it will be a surprise of pure stupidity
Who could there possibly be that does not know that any nominee of the Kenyan will be pro-abortion? perhaps of a mind to go along with mandatory abortion.
There is no doubt about her position on anything. I wish we could say that about our Republican nominees.
We are one vote away from every privately held gun to be taken away.
We are one vote away from the complete Stalinist eradication of every Christian symbol from public life.
We are one vote away from the insane notion that the Constitution guarantees full and complete health care, a home and a job to everyone who wants one.
We are one vote away from the forced governmental dismantling of the First Amendment, through every medium including the internet and the radio.
We are one vote away from New Haven Fire Fighters becoming the law of the land, when your childs grades, years of study, and hard work are thrown down the sewer of political correctness if the racial outcome does not meet the pyscho-lefts definition of racial equality.
We are one vote away from the eradication of property rights.
We are one vote away from the takeover of private industry by the government.
We are one vote away from mandated sterilizations and the decree that humans and their breath are a form of pollution.
We are one vote away from Big Brother - just one, and they will not relent because these appointments are of a very extremist nature with a leftist political agenda. They mean to change America through the will of leftist judges - and not through the ballot box because their ideology is rejected.
Our sacred Bill of Rights will be gone. The power of the State will not be stopped.
The freaks are in charge. You can see why people like alex jones have so much success.
Aliens & weird conspiracies are more reasonable than the idea that the freaks & running the sideshow by themselves.
You are exactly right ... The LA Times is practicing the exact opposite of journalism ... in this case, obfuscation.
I’m not wondering.
Oh please, both sides guessing? Come on...she is for butchering babies, tearing them limb from limb. Both sides guessing...Just look at the woman’s background and those that she holds in high regard.
Sometimes I wonder how these people get paid for writing. I want that job and I want to be paid for it too.
This story is a smoke screen to try and soften any resistance to her nomination, nothing else.
Has she admitted her lesbianism yet?
The Dems know she's a socialist, cut from the same cloth as Obama.
And all the Republicans in Congress combined don't have enough vertebrae to make one spinal cord.
This b!#@h is going to be the next nail the Obama Regime drives into America's coffin.
The media outed her then retracted it. I don’t think anybody has any doubts she is.
