The Anglican rift over homosexual clergy has grown deeper than ever after the ordination in California of the Churchs first lesbian bishop.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, had previously called the move regrettable and warned that it called into question the place of the US Episcopalian Church in the global Anglican Communion.
Mary Glasspool, 56, was ordained on yesterday in front of 3,000 supporters and two protesters in the Long Beach Arena, south of Los Angeles.
Canon Mary Glasspool after her ordination
as bishop in a Los Angeles arena
Calling herself a reconciling person, she offered to reach out and engage with people who believe or think differently than I do, but her appointment has already tested the Episcopal Churchs ties to the Church of England almost to breaking point.
Hoping to retain the allegiance of conservatives still furious over the ordination of Gene Robinson, the first gay Anglican bishop, in 2003, Dr Williams has said that Canon Glasspools ordination raises very serious questions not just for the Episcopalian Church and its place in the Anglican Communion, but for the Communion as a whole. He declined to comment on the ordination.
A spokesman for the Church of Ireland called the appointment both wrong and disappointing.
Such sentiments were voiced but quickly overwhelmed at the four-hour ceremony, at which Canon Glasspool and another woman, Diane Bruce, were ordained sufragan, or assistant bishops by Archbishop Jon Bruno of the Episcopal Churchs Los Angeles diocese considered one of the most progressive in the country.
Two men, thought to be father and son, held up placards and denounced homosexuality as an abomination before being led from the venue by security guards. There was silence when Archbishop Bruno asked later if anyone in

considered one of the most heretical in the country.
Um, spelling error.
Satanic. Ugly beyond belief.
That’s just sick.
BXVI is heading over to Britain shortly to extend the invitation of a theological Dunkirk - the evacuation of the Christian back to Catholic shores.
Psalm 14
Denunciation of Godlessness
To the leader. Of David.
1Fools say in their hearts, There is no God.
They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds;
there is no one who does good.
2The Lord looks down from heaven on humankind
to see if there are any who are wise,
who seek after God.
3They have all gone astray, they are all alike perverse;
there is no one who does good,
no, not one.
4Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers
who eat up my people as they eat bread,
and do not call upon the Lord?
5There they shall be in great terror,
for God is with the company of the righteous.
6You would confound the plans of the poor,
but the Lord is their refuge.
7O that deliverance for Israel would come from Zion!
When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people,
Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad.
But I truly feel for those in the Episcopal Church who see the depths of depravity stealing away their institution and replacing it with the worship of sin. I hope they find a new home that is faithful to Christ and leave the fallen to their own earned fates.
Christianity is all about humility and self sacrifice. Homosexuals on the other hand are all about self-gratification, nothing me. It’s the ultimate “me” lifestyle. The idea of a Christian spiritual leader leading a life of homosexuality is laughable on its face. This notion cannot succeed and is destined for serious failure.
The Episcopal church of the USA has destroyed itself, just as the rest of the country has become the USSA.
I fear that there will be no turning back for either.
The Christians left that cult a long time ago.
I also know He destroyed entire peoples who failed to heed His admonitions
Now the Sodomites are honored in the Lord's House? Blasphemy!!
no yitbos
There is a reason I supported the Diocese of Fort Worth in its move to separate from the ECUSA and realign. I’ll admit it had nothing to do with homosexual priests or bishops, but the nonsense surrounding this certainly makes me glad I made the choice I did.
But then, when the Presiding Bishop of the ECUSA openly claims the Divinity of Christ is irrelevant, it’s hard to be surprised by anything that group does.
That is a flattering photo. You should see the video of those comments.
My daughter said, "I've seen that horrible face somewhere".
I reached into the bookcase, pulled out a book on Egyptology, and showed her a photo of King Tutankhamen's mummy.
Her reply: "That's it!"
I am a former refugee from the Church of Anything Goes err Episcopal Church.
I’ve been a Catholic now for almost three years and couldn’t be happier.
Revelation 9:21 (New International Version)
21Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts.
I was thinking more along the lines of Ted Cassidy.
Ive been a Catholic now for almost three years and couldnt be happier.
My wife and I have decided that this was the last straw for us as well. We would like to see about coverting to the Catholic Church, but we have some issues that would probably prevent it. (We have both been divorced; I am a Freemason, etc...)
Heh. Minor impediments. :)
This is not an expression of love for one’s religion, imho.
