Richard Russell, the famous writer of the Dow Theory Letters, has a chilling line in today's note:
Do your friends a favor. Tell them to "batten down the hatches" because there's a HARD RAIN coming. Tell them to get out of debt and sell anything they can sell (and don't need) in order to get liquid. Tell them that Richard Russell says that by the end of this year they won't recognize the country. They'll retort, "How the dickens does Russell know -- who told him?" Tell them the stock market told him.
That's pretty intense!

And I ask myself, "Am I seeing things? The April 26 high for the Dow was 11205.03. The Dow is selling as write at 10557 down 648 points from its April high. If business is even better than expected, then why is the Dow down over 600 points? And why, if there were 674 new highs on the NYSE on April 26, were there only 20 new highs on Friday, May 14? And if my PTI was 6133 on April 26, why is it down 17 points since its April high?
The fact is that I've been seeing deterioration in the stock market ever since early-April, and this in the face of improving business news. If it were that easy, there would be 300,000 people at each tax lien sale, or forclosure sale, including me.
The only safe way to do that is buy a tax lien, and wait to be bought out by the sucker who inadvertently got his house sucked out from underneath him. It takes as long as 2 years, before you can’t be paid off.
There are 3 and 4 bedroom homes for sale in Detroit for 6-12,000. Why do you think nobody wants them?

Well, he's gonna have a "heck of a time" being "President" over a lot of little and disjointed and scattered "tribes" in different parts of what was "once known as the United States" ...
I would think he would have to "keep it together" (i.e., the "country") and he would have to, at least, food for everyone and have shelter for everyone -- and then he could still be "President" ... doncha know ... :-)

You weren't reading my comments up above, then ... because that's exactly what this acquaintance of mine was saying.
He got the properties at county tax sales -- and he got the deed within 48 hours and there is no recourse from the previous owner. He said that's the law now here.
He pointed out to me that he had some older "tax sale property" that he bought before the law was changed and he is almost through the redemption period and he'll be able to get the deed for the property. But, the ones he got recently, he says that the owner no longer has any recourse and he gets the deed in 48 hours or less, with absolutely no recourse from the previous owner. He was really emphatic on that point, and he said it was "great" for him. He could just tell them to move in three days or start paying him rent that he set for them.
That was my discussion ... you see ... :-)

Same here... but I've owned it since before I knew what an "EMP" was. You can still buy full sets of tubes for specific radio models - I got a set off of eBay a while back. Mostly Russian tubes, but the specs are correct and they work well enough.

Not if it's in your house. My grandmother (may she rest in peace) kept a whole shoebox full of gold coins, not being much of an FDR fan. She passed them out to the grandkids in her old age. I still have mine.

Well, I didn’t vote him in ... but he got there anyway ... hoo-boy! And so I advocate voting him out the next Presidential election... but ... the question in my mind is whether the voting electorate will do that.
I find that many times the voting electorate doesn’t always go “my way” on these matters ... :-)
