The Senate approved new far-reaching financial rules on Thursday aimed at preventing the risky behavior and regulatory failures that brought the economy to the brink of collapse two years ago and cost millions of Americans their jobs and savings.
The bill passed by a vote of 59 to 39, with four Republicans joining a majority of Democrats in supporting it.
The 1,500-page measure, shepherded through the Senate by Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.), chairman of the banking committee, seeks to reshape both Washington and Wall Street.
They successfully courted Republican Sens. Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins, both of Maine, in part by including in the final bill provisions that each wanted. Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) also backed the bill. Equally critical was the last-minute push to win over Scott Brown (R), the Senate's newest member.

The dow dropped because of the management of the US dollar. THey can lay all the excuses on all the countries, but we know the real reason. Democrats, liberals, socialism.
Have you noticed, freedom is never mentioned by obama. We all knew it. He’s pushing commie. It’s a FACT!
Isn’t there ANYONE in the country who can take down these snakes?
I doubt it. Have alternative plans just in case.
Great post! We need more Americans like you. A++++
Is far-reaching the new term for "unconstitutional", "illegal", "socialist" and/or "power grabbing"?
And what would those steps be? I'm curious since I might want to do the same.
I live in Maine, and I don’t want to be part of frickin’ Canada!
I hate curling! For what it’s worth, I hate Snowe and Collins, too.
>I live in Maine, and I dont want to be part of frickin Canada!
Think you’ve got it bad?? I’m from canada! I escaped socialism and ended up in Marxism that makes my old country look like Reaganland.
And yesterday it was reported that it didn’t pass. These people........REPUBLICANS and communists alike need to be put in front of a firing squad. I’m sorry..but justice MUST be done and lifetime prison sentences IS NOT justice. These people have screwed us and do not have to live by what they relegate to us ‘common folk’ (although we pay the bill). Our beloved Nation is sinking quickly and diplomacy is DEAD.
On a side note, this evening, while going to the store I was behind a ‘hybrid’ prius (sp) with an Obama/Biden sticker in the rear window and I became unglued, honking my horn and well making gestures and mouthing words that I shouldn’t even know...God help me because honestly, even being female, if the SOB would have gotten out of his vehicle, I would have knocked him in the head (I carry a black jack for self defense). WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH PEOPLE? I don’t get it...Honest to God...I don’t understand.
Oh, God save us. The Rats are “helping” again.
We must purge these Rinos from our party.
Sorry! I hear New Hampshire is nice! And no curling! ;p
Unfortunately, all those Massholes (Massachusetts residents) that have poured into New Hampshire in recent years have turned the state blue.
Oh well, at least there’s no income tax (for now).
Thanks, everybody who sat on your asses on election day in 2008. Feh.
I wonder what it’s like in Panama?
I am convinced elected office corrupts just about anyone once they get into office and start liking the power they have.
We have rino supporters here even though they have been told this is a NO RINO Site.
