I was having breakfast on the terrace with my wife the other day and out of the blue she says to me "I think I want a handgun but I don't want it to be able to kill someone"
My first thought was "What's the point?"
Well alot of back and forth discussion, so any suggestions/comments/advice?
Exactly.
That gave me the laugh of the day
>Perhaps she just wants to permanently maim ?
LOL - I like that thought.
Buy her a Smith and Wesson Model 31 .32 cal revolver. Although it is not made currently, many can be found at gunbroker.com it’s small, light, not likely to kill, but will scare and demand attention...
Have you been getting on her nerves lately?
What’s your insurance policy look like? I had to ask.
After that, it is important for her to decide at what point would she not be willing to be a victim. We shoot people to make them quit what they are doing. If the result is that they stop doing things to make you their victim, then mission accomplished. If they die as a result, then they had a choice not to engage in that activity. If your wife can understand that and knows the point where she is not going to be a victim, then she knows when she wants a gun.
I once wanted to get a gun for my wife too.
But no one would trade me.
(ba doom shish!)
Buy her a 20ga shotgun. Better than nothing and may only maim with the right ammo.
But make sure you tell her that whoever she shoots may get very offended, take the gun away and use it on her. Tell her to make VERY sure she wants a gun but doesn’t want to use it to kill. It may very well end-up being worse than having no gun at all.
Agree.

Tell her the gun doesn’t get to decide.
37mm flare gun. Hit him in the chest and it will keep the perp busy and signal for the police at the same time.
May I suggest a Kimber Grand Raptor 1911 45. When she REALLY makes up her mind and does not want one, you will have one sweet weapon.....
Starter pistol.
I’d get her a .50 Desert Eagle so she could do this!

My mom once told my dad she wanted a gun and my dad responded “so you can shoot me, right?”
Tell her that no one *wants* to kill someone, but she had better be prepared to use it if it’s a choice between her own life or that of the perpetrator. She needs to be mentally prepared to stop the threat and the best way to do that is to aim for the center. Practice and knowledge makes perfect.
