Eat less meat to save the planet - UN The world needs to change to a more vegetarian diet to stand a chance of tackling climate change, according to a major new United Nations report.
By Louise Gray, Environment Correspondent Published: 1:36PM BST 02 Jun 2010
The group of international scientists said the greatest cause of greenhouse gas emissions is food production and the use of fossil fuels.
But while the use of coal and oil could be gradually replaced by renewable energy sources like wind and solar, the world will always need to eat.
As the world population increases it is feared that the production of food will become the main cause of climate change and environmental degradation.
The International Panel of Sustainable Resource Management pointed out that agricultural production accounts for 70 per cent of global freshwater production, 38 per cent of land use and 19 per cent of the world's greenhouse gas emissions.
The report, that will be presented to world governments, said the only way to feed the world while reducing climate change is to switch to more a more vegetarian diet.
"A substantial reduction of impacts would only be possible with a substantial worldwide diet change," it read.

The group of international scientists said the greatest cause of greenhouse gas emissions is food production and the use of fossil fuels. If we all just stayed home in the dark and cold - or heat - and starved, the climate would be just fine.
Does anyone listen to these idiots?

Mr Steiner said governments could encourage people to eat less meat by reforming the system of taxes and subsidies so vegetarian food is cheaper.
No matter what the problem, global warming or global cooling, population boom or bust, the liberal's answer is always the same: Raise taxes.

The number one cause of greenhouse gas comes from global warmongers such as al gore and the liars that keep this scam going.

It’s not about “saving the planet” with these jokers.
It’s about CONTROLLING the planet.

Its not about saving the planet with these jokers. Its about CONTROLLING the planet. Same deal with 0bamaCare. At first they said, this is going to save money and help people who cant get Healthcare. The number of additional people will get Healthcare that didn't is very few to zero.
It would've been WAY more cost effective to help the tiny number that couldn't get it than to make plans entirely ruin the system.
And there will still be some people not covered.
It's all about more govt control

Once again, diet advice that is very harmful. Hard to get enough B-vitamins and good fats from a vegetarian diet, making it very hard to maintain mental health. I suppose then people would be much easier to control...

Meat requires less land, meat is more nutritionally dense, meat tastes better.
You'll live longer and healthier on cow meat alone than you would eating nothing but say... cabbage.

If the UN says it, you can be almost guaranteed that it's wrong!
