And people should absolutely NOT have the right to be lazy idiots. We need them up and moving about in accordance with our plans for them.

"I sit and day dream, I've got day dreams galore.
Cigarette ashes, there they go on the floor.
I go away weekends, leave my keys in the door.
Why try to change me now?" -- Sung by Frank Sinatra

Oh wait! Old Blue Eyes was a boozer, not a pothead.

(I recognize your sarc, shempy)

Please don’t use the relatively respectable term ‘smoker’ for potheads. This stuff is true, and it’s a laarrrgge part of why europe and now the west coast is falling apart.

Mexicans and Muslims doing the jobs potheads won't do?

“America is “Escaping from Reality”. Why?”...”Because it sucks with inept leadership getting stronger every day...”
****

That is an excellent question, but I would add that the escape mechanism has been in place long before the 2008 elections.

“Just wait until 3-D porn gets everyone addicted”

That reminds me of the film, “Idiocracy”, the likes of which we are approaching every day. Wanna see the future? Watch that movie.

Are you just providing information for people to make informed decisions or do you support the prohibition of marijuana? Because those are two different issues.

If you support the ban of marijuana, because of how people harm themselves with it, would you support the ban of everything else that people can harm themselves with? That's the question.

Second, what about the harm that prohibition itself causes? Is there any kind of cost and benefit analysis? Is there any concern about how the attempted enforcement of a prohibition increases the size, scope and power of government? Is there any thought to the question of whether the government could ever be successful in enforcing the ban? I believe it was William Buckley who said, 'if there is no solution, there is no problem'. Buckley advocated the re-legalization of drugs, including heroin, btw.

Just wondering here, I never see any discussion of this issues by the misguided conservatives, who have adopted the liberal/leftist policy of drug prohibition as there own. Does conservative mean 'adopting liberal policies a generation later, because they've been around that long'?

Any discussion of Marijuana users always brings out the the users, who are happy with their crutch,

Yes alcohol can be a crutch too.

I dont need or use either. Just because something is legal doesnt mean it is mandatory.

You don’t see any discussion about the merry-go-round of “the sky is falling” research papers from people like the RWJF that work closely with the bureaucrats that take those results to Congress to argue for more money and then use some of the money for more research grants.

Most of the “horrors” of marijuana are from the abuse of the drug

No, almost every single one of the "horrors" of MJ are from the drug laws, and are inflicted on the users by cops and the courts.

The worst things about marijuana is that it makes you have sex with older women, play the piano REALLY fast, and murder innocent virgins. At least according to the experts at this link. Personally I wouldn’t know of course.

Yet after 30 plus years I grow more conservative each day...

The drug war is about statism.....not personal responsibility...

I just hate it when the “I know what is best” crowd tells everyone else how to live.

You've hit it on the head. The people, and that includes FReepers, who are against legalizing drugs are people who want to control others. They are as bad as any liberal when it comes to being a threat to freedom. I don't smoke pot but I am all for legalizing it, and other drugs as well.

The war on drugs has been the one of the main reasons our freedom has eroded away over the last 50 years or so and has accomplished absolutely nothing.

I'm more than willing to allow those who smoke to do so, as long as it doesn't affect me.

Unfortunately for them, that rules out most pot use.

It is people are who not treated as adults by the nanny state that is much more of a problem than any possible effects of cannibals...

That is very nice.

Of course, you and your 'buds' won't be sucking up any government dollars when you become a drooling moron ahead of schedule? We'll just let you lay there until you get better or die?

I think it's already affecting your brain.

In the interests of efficiency I recocommend the drug cartels set up an on-line account so that all the posters here who think that addictive drugs should be legalized can make money deposits to the cartels without the necessity of actually processing the drugs and risking arrest.

In fact, they could purchase shares in the cartels and drug gangs. Say....this is an idea that merits some serious exploration...I'll get back to you later.

You know I know a lot of people who smoke weed. All of them are either employed or in grad school. Their relative uselessness is no more or less than the general public. In fact, I would say I know more people who are useless who don’t smoke weed.

“A substantial percentage of America cannot face reality without being drugged into stupidity. If the problem is to be explained it will have to be at a 6th. grade reading level since that’s about the average.”

When writing an article to a newspaper they suggest a 4th grade level.
