Kristian Magar, My Pick For the U.S. Third Congressional District Of Louisiana
Self ^ | June 9th, 2010 | Uncle Sham

Posted on 06/09/2010 8:34:33 PM PDT by Uncle Sham

As a long-time Freeper, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce someone to my fellow Freepers whom I consider to be the best candidate for the U. S. House of Representatives Third Congressional District of Louisiana. His name is Kristian Magar of New Iberia. Kristian is a normal, everyday, God-fearing, hard-working, law abiding, intelligent person. He has never run for political office and has no desire for a long political career. He is simply fed up just like the rest of us over what has transpired in Washington D.C. and has decided to step forward on behalf of his children to do what is necessary to return our nation to one in which they have a future.

Kristian wants to return our government to its constitutional roots and is determined to overturn everything that doesn’t belong under its umbrella, including all things “Obama”. He is pro-life, pro-business, pro-family values, and is energized for all of the right reasons to do what is needed to help restore our national dignity and purpose. In short, he is one of us, one like us, and one FOR us, the normal, productive, decent people of this nation. Kristian knows that our individual freedoms rest on the premise that there is a God and that no group of people sitting somewhere in a Washington D.C. conference room can ever take it away from us. Kristian knows that it is “we the people” who are in charge of our country and that the Constitution says so right from the start. It is “we the people” who are not being listened to in Washington D.C. It is “we the people” who are suffering the real world misery that those leftist career politician know-it-alls are shoving down our throats. It is “We the people” who are going to be faced with the task of paying for, cleaning up, and correcting the massive injustice that has been done to the future of our children and grandchildren. Its up to us, the little people, and that means it has got to start with one of us. First and foremost, Kristian Magar is one of us.

I support Kristian for many reasons, one of which is his honesty and straightforward manner. I have spoken to him at length about his views and what he intends to accomplish if elected. He is not a pretender but a genuine patriot like the ones our founders would have envisioned and been proud of. I believe him when he talks about his children being his prime motivation for running. He will not sit idly by as others engage in stealing their futures away from them. His is a motivation of love and concern for those who must live after he is long gone. I trust that Kristian will do what is honorable and proper in addressing this nations semi-addiction to the unconstitutional nanny state. We need Kristian and as many like him as we can find to bring our grassroots efforts to restore our constitutional government to full fruition.

Here’s my take on the other candidates in this Republican primary.

Jeff Landry of New Iberia
Before meeting Kristian, Jeff Landry, because he is from my hometown of New Iberia would have been one of the first candidates I might have considered offering my support to. For me, a candidate has to be real, themselves, and comfortable in who they are and what they are attempting to accomplish. Jeff might very well be all of these, but if he is, there would be no need to misrepresent anything about himself or spread disinformation about his opponents. I sense manipulation from his campaign and I am not comfortable with him because of this. We have enough long time manipulators already messing things up without increasing their numbers. I also have another problem with Jeff that I’ll get to in a moment.

Hunt Downer of Houma
Hunt was a lifelong democrat until switching to Republican in 2000. He served as the speaker of the house until Mike Foster replaced him in the mid-nineties. Later, he served as Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, and then as legislative director in the Office of the Governor under democrat Kathleen Blanco. Let’s see, he was a democrat, then a republican, then a democrat administration legislative director. I’m a little confused. He was a speaker of the house, then wanted to be a governor, then was supposedly considering this year’s lieutenant governors position and now has finally announced that he “wants” to be a U.S. Rep. I have trouble believing that he really, truly is running for a position that he dreamed of all his life as opposed to possibly picking what he considers to be a slam dunk race. Hunt seems like an honorable person and in fact is a member of the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame. This means that name recognition alone makes him the favorite in this race and he’s likely to make a runoff. Unfortunately, it also means that he carries the burden of being a career you know what.

Chris Leopold of Belle Chasse
I have not met Chris but he seems to be a civic-minded, responsible person who has participated in a variety of positive efforts on behalf of his community and faith. Kristian Magar has spoken highly to me of him in the brief time they have been running for this office. Chris is a businessman so this means he is more like us but His being from the same end of the district as Downer hurts his chances. Downer’s name recognition in the rest of the district will be too much to overcome.

Summing It All Up
In my opinion, Hunt Downer will win any runoff election versus either Jeff Landry or Chris Leopold. The eastern, more heavily populated side of the district has rejected Jeff Landry’s previous attempts on behalf of Craig Romero and will reject him as well. He has a record that they’ve heard already and it’s scratched as far as they are concerned. He has nothing of value with which contrast himself to Hunt Downer. They are both attorneys. In my opinion, this election cycle will be hard on attorney types whether they deserve it or not. Attorneys are vastly overrepresented in Congress in relationship to their true numbers out in the real world and many voters think there is a need to bring this back into a better balance between the real world in which we the people live and the legalistic world in which the attorneys operate. In addition, both Jeff and Hunt have been political players long enough to suffer from the tar of incumbency penalty that will be one of the burdens to overcome in winning what I feel is a “grassroots” seat.

In a runoff, Chris Leopold would provide more contrast than Landry but once again is at a geographical and political disadvantage to Hunt Downer. If it boils down to Kristian Magar versus Hunt Downer, we might have a race. Kristian can contrast himself from Downer as a “grassroots, tea-party candidate” versus and old school, career politician. As an engineer, he can offer himself as a legitimate option to those who feel as I do that another attorney in Washington D.C. is not needed. Attorneys have an honorable place in our society. It’s mainly to protect us as individuals against the tyranny of the state, not to turn us all into cattle of the state by legislative fiat. Downer has been around a long time. I feel it’s time to give a regular guy a chance, someone like me for a change. If there has ever been a time to send a dose of everyday, regular, common sense to Washington D.C. this is it. If you think that Congress needs more of “us” and less of “them”, let’s give one of our own that chance. I believe that Kristian Magar is the right man for the job. Please consider voting for him and/or offering him your support this August.

I hope that his vision for America is more upbeat than that of his sister Debbie:

Thanks for the info about Kristian Magar (unknown to me before now), will look at him.
One thing I most certainly agree with you about, it's time for one of us to be elected. I trust one of us more than any career politician.

I met him a few months ago at the Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce Supper and was very impressed with his sincerity as well as knowledge of the issues. Keep an eye on his events calendar. Perhaps you’ll have an opportunity to meet him as well. Thanks, and spread the word!

Our Louisiana affiliates agree with you. They’re getting ready to endorse him right now, in fact. And our leaders across the country who have had a chance to talk with Kristian were VERY impressed as well.

If Congress was filled with Kristian Magars this country would soon be a very different place. A much better place, with hope for our posterity’s freedom and prosperity.
