PayPal.com Targets Conservative Blog as 'Hate' Site

Conservative blogger Pamela Geller says she has been threatened with discontinuation of her online payment account by PayPal, the most widely used service of its kind.

On her popular Web site, Atlas Shrugs, Geller posted the text of an e-mail notice she received Saturday morning from PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy Department.

"[A]fter a recent review of your account, it has been determined that you are currently in violation of PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy," the PayPal e-mail said. "Under the Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal may not be used to send or receive payments for items that promote hate, violence, racial intolerance or the financial exploitation of a crime."

eBay owns Paypal. They bought Paypal from Elon Musk some years ago.

“dropped pay pal a while back, and bought a pre paid visa card from wal mart cost $3.00 to load up to 500.00 on it, and can be re loaded for a small fee any time.. figured a pre paid one would not mess up a regular one in case something went awry like some one stealing my account number, they could only get what I had in there. and it is usually not too much..I add to it when I am going to purchse something”

The heck with that. I just use my Visa credit card and check it every few days. If someone does get it, then Visa is hit for nearly all the damages. I buy a lot of stuff on line, and was only hit once, and that store even knew enough to contact me prior to processing - so it never got charged. At worst, I get a new card if that does happen, and have to change a half-dozen auto-pays. Seems to work great so far.

I’m much more worried about writing checks or using a debit card (which I won’t) since that gives people direct access my checking account.

I see the point about Ebay - We used them once to buy something electronic - it was defective. Never trusted them again...so I don’t have that issue to deal with.

This reminds me of something I’ve been meaning to inquire about...my company uses Cymphonix for content filtering, bandwidth management, etc. When I have the appropriate time to view FR while on their network, although I can view/read the threads/posts, when I try to do a search or post something of my own, it gets blocked and the reason that shows up on the blocked screen is something like: “racist/hate speech content.” Anyone else experience something like this? I’ve gone to our IT guy and told him about this block and have stated emphatically to him that there’s nothing racist/hateful about the speech on this site.

Further The majority of folks on Ebay take Paypal and many ONLY take Paypal.

Ebay only LETS sellers accept PayPal (which ebay owns) or "ProPay."

The last time I sold a piece of antique amateur radio equipment on ebay, I listed in the ad that I accepted PayPal or Postal Money Orders only. Ebay pulled my ad saying all transactions had to be through PayPal or "ProPay."

At that point I re-listed the equipment with "PayPal only" and it sold quickly.

Then, PayPal notified me that my transaction was "suspicious" and notified me it was holding MY MONEY until the buyer of the equipment "approved" the transaction and acknowledged they received what they paid for.

I got on the phone with PayPal and argued my way up their "management chain" and after several hours had MY MONEY released that night, which I promptly transferred to my bank account.

The buyer "approved" the transaction several days later telling PayPal the item was "better than described."

At the time ebay and PayPal pulled this crap on me, I had a 100% user rating and more than 100 successful transactions as a seller. After this experience, both eBay and PayPal can kiss my ass. I stopped doing business with them, period. I no longer have a credit card or bank account linked to them, and I've removed all my personal information from both ebay and paypal.

“I know several folks who have online stores who despise Paypal, not sure why (it’s not over this specific issue).”

One of the numerous reasons: If you are a merchant and a buyer files a complaint, PayPal will freeze the money in your account until the issue is settled, regardless of how ridiculous the complaint may be.

I’ve bought on ebay a ton, but finally needed to sell something. The jerk hasn’t given me feedback yet, so ebay’s holding over $125 for over a week now. Their policy is really vague. I saw once that they said 3 days after delivery they’d release. Now it says 10 days. Blah

“PayPal may not be used to send or receive payments for items that promote hate, violence, racial intolerance or the financial exploitation of a crime” unless it’s Democrats doing the hating (they do it better) and it promotes the New World Order.

like some one stealing my account number, they could only get what I had in there.

I don't lose anything if mine is stolen, I'm pretty sure most, if not all Visa is that way.

I don’t understand why anyone needs Paypal.

Try selling on eBay without it.

Ebay is on a bad downward slide. Me betterhalf is or rather was a seller and sales have gradually drifted to zero, probably due to economy.
