Etheridge apologizes for confrontation caught on video

Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.) on Monday apologized for behaving aggressively during a confrontation on the street with a young man who claimed to be a student.

"I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved," he said in a statement released by his office.

A video of the incident, in which Etheridge can be seen swatting at a camera and grabbing the young man by the coat collar, appeared online Monday morning.

"Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina," Etheridge said, "I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response. I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse."

“I wish just once I’d see someone knock the snot out of one of these “royal” representatives. Once the congressman grabbed his neck he would have been within his rights to kick the bastard in the cods.”

I couldn’t agree more. And the same goes for those SEIU thugs that keep defiling the lawns, streets, and meetings where people are peacefully exercising their constitutional rights. One of these days, Alice, right in the kisser!

I believe under Article I, Section 6 all that can be done is to bring a charge of Breach of the Peace to pierce the Constitutional immunity of that berk.

It is my understanding that assault, battery, robbery, kidnapping, and drunk/disorderly can all fall under Breach of the Peace, but IANAL.

Take heart friend. When you can’t cut off the head of the snake because he is “Protected” from those at the top. YOU simply do what we have been doing, take out his support, one person at a time. By november, I hope to see Pelosi gone, Reid gone, Murtha (well, he took himself out), one by one, they are resigning, retireing, quitting races, and one by one, his support base is failing. We will remove him from the bottom up.
I repeat my dream, he will, while still in office, see HealthCare repealed. His veto will be overwhelmingly defeated. He will have his programs dismantled, his czars removed, the military will be refunded, Iraq will be on its own, Afganistan, with Osama gone will be abandoned, now that it has found riches in its soil, they no longer need us, capitalism will take hold, as their greed eliminated the need for the Poppy. Our loans will be reduced by repaying unspent monies, companies will survive or fail based on their abilities not our pocketbooks, housing loans will be given to those who can truly afford them. Small business will be allowed to keep its profits, and those that fail will do so because that is what should happen to them based on the market, or their efforts. Chrysler dealers will get their companies back, and those who got sweetheart deals will lose theirs, because they should never have gotten them to begin with. People will get back to work, and Bush tax cuts will become permanent.
Again, just my dreams, but the biggest one is that Obama will show or fail to show us his birth certificate, and we will have a Supreme Court with the cajones to demand that he produce it.

OK that one was over the top...but hey, a guy can dream right?

Not only are you right with your simple assertion, what the hell is the deal with this constant “WHO ARE YOU?” Does he only answer simple, innocent questions based on who’s asking? I mean it’s not like he walked on by, said he was busy or had an appointment to get to. His behavior is inexcusable.

The Washington Post said he “hugged” the guy.

This story is percolating under the radar. That kid is gonna be a star. He handled it right. That congress critter had no right to do what he did.

Look for this to be big news the next couple of days.

Americans are not going to like this.

No, he shouldn’t be in jail, he should be in the hospital.

All I could think of watching the video was, man I wish I would have been the kid.

I know that kid’s type. Raised to respect and defer to his elders, he was aghast at behavior that would have landed himself in handcuffs if HE had tried it. I hope his parents are raising Cain and going to bat for him in every way possible.

Why in the world would he apologize for what the Washington Post deemed a hug?

I guess he realized it was sexual harrassment...?

I love how union-slug Martha Waggoner writing for the Associated Press lies and claims the students aproached him. Martha Waggoner is so afraid to report reality, it shows she knows that all that can prop up the Left is a wad o' lies.

Look, nothing happens without a dream. First the dream, then the effort, and then the dream realized.

It drives me nuts to see folks come up with a dream or a game plan here, and then everyone but that person says, “Oh, that’s an realistic dream, that can’t work.”

Not every dream is attainable, but many of our dreams are. And here’s to seeing yours come to pass.

The stars are aligning, and people can object to them at their own risk.

Pretty sincere apology. Can’t ask for much more than that.

We should ask for no less than what they would demand had the Congressman been a Republican, which is his RESIGNATION.

It's worth a visit to the Washington Post to read their "conservative blogger" get absolutely blasted by 95% of the respondents to his dismissive article of this incident.

Who TMZ'd Rep. Bob Etheridge?

He claims Etheridge merely hugged the kid, and is mostly interested in learning who these "students" really are.

The defenders of both Etheridge and the author have abandoned ship and it is a dog pile on the rabbit at this point.

Washington Compost ....

Who TMZ'd Rep. Bob Etheridge?

Last week Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.), who's seen as a safe bet for re-election this year despite representing a somewhat conservative (Cook R+2) district, ran into two self-described students with video cameras outside of a fundraiser.

"Do you fully support the Obama agenda?" asked one of the students

"Who are you?" asked Etheridge, grabbing one of the cameras and pointing it down -- a move more typically seen from Hollywood bodyguards than congressmen. The second camera rolled as Etheridge, irritated, held the wrist of the first cameraman, then pulled the student to his side and grabbed him in a hug.

“No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response.”

and THAT is why he’s a turd. All of you giving him credit for apologizing should meditate on that part for a while. He’s blaming the victim (deftly, I might add).

I ask for more!

Me too, this is just the next generation of a weak liberal leftist apology.

You can bet your bottom dollar by the time he made this cya statement that he not only knew where these students are from and also the name of the one he assaulted.

If he really met it, he would have answered the kids question when he "apologized."

Now he will just be more sneaky and evasive by saying no comment in these types if situations and in other public speaking areas he will vett whoever is allowed to ask questions or even come close to him.
