Germany's thrilling strike force tore apart old rivals England to reach the World Cup quarter-finals on Sunday in a 4-1 win marked by an extraordinary blunder from the Uruguayan referee who ruled out a good goal.
- In an incident-packed game at Bloemfontein's Free State Stadium, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski took advantage of some shambolic defending by the Three Lions to put Germany 2-0 up after 32 minutes before Matthew Upson headed one back
Minutes later, a shot by England's Frank Lampard went over the goalkeeper, hit the bar and bounced behind the goal-line.
But neither referee Jorge Larrionda nor his assistants saw the goal, and waved play on.
The sense of injustice burning among England's legions of passionate fans dimmed, however, when Thomas Mueller scored two in quick succession in the second half.

The Germans are simply a superior team. There are no excuses for the Brits to make.
As an American I was frustrated by the loss to Ghana yesterday. Most Americans don't even know where the West African Nation is on the map. We lost to a country with the population of New York and a GNP of New Hampshire. So for a country of 310 million to lose to Ghana means US soccer still has a VERY long way to go. I didn't think the US would win the Cup but I thought we would do much better than what we did. I'm disappointed.

what a stupid post, so it would have been better if Germany had won the war.
What has the war got to do with football, NOTHING and look at Ireland as they are in a mess on and off the field too.
So get your own house in order before you knock others hey

And the thing is why didn’t they confer afterwards like they did in ‘66 after England’s third goal.

if that goal has been allowed England would have not thrown so many players forward at the start of the 2nd half and Kinsmann said this too who I might add showed a lot of class..
If they had not thrown the players forward looking to get even then England would not have been caught out.
saying that Germany played better today and that is what counts in the end.
To read stupid comments like maybe Germany would have been better winning the war is , well has to the most stupid post I have read on the internet for some time and that is saying something

The US preformed very well!
They made it to the final 16 (and you had a chance to
even win this game).
So nothing to worry.
The US allways was the underdog (if you leave patriotic feelings aside).
For that they did very well.

Sometimes I think England would have been better off if the bloody Germans had won the war! England is a mess on the field and off!
You aren't as far off as you think. This isn't a good comment for a soccer post, but if Germany had won, English Civilization would have been preserved. The Germans had no intention of destroying British Civilization. No, the British people after WW2 did the job of destroying British Civilization with their moronic immigration policy and social welfare policy. The Brits have no one to blame but themselves. In retrospect, Britain might have been better off if they had lost. History is nothing if not ironic.

England's Matthew Upson's head shot into the goal was a thing of beauty. It was as if he were suspended in air until the ball got to him.
The call (or lack of) on Frank Lampard's goal was a crime.
England's goalie David James did a great job, but was overrun - his team were slow to respond (if they even bothered), even AFTER they got spanked by Germany all the way from the other end of the field.
The best I can say about Rooney was he made a great lure - whenever he got the ball he'd have 3-4 from Germany all over him, drawing them away from the other England players, then he'd pass instead of trying to run it in.

Too bad. :-( I was hoping England would win, not because I give a rat's ass about soccer, but because my mom just got back from a 3 week vacation in Germany, and she gave me disturbing news, news which matched information I'd previously read online : It seems Germany no longer loves dachshunds.:-(
In all the time she was in Germany, she saw countless canines, but only 3 teckels. THREE. That's only one per week.
Apparently dachshunds are no longer popular or "fashionable" in Germany, and a country that would turns its back on the finest , cutest dog ever bred, deserves much worse than to lose a soccer game. I mean, really! How could a breed this adorable NOT be number one anywhere, but especially in the land of its birth:

The shame of it all, is that it was looking ripe to become a classic, and unfortunately after the missed call the game just became a German clinic.

And when people with names like Barack Hussein Obama are called natural born citizens of the U.S.
Good comment. When we go from Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, etc. to Obama, we know that we are a nation in a cultural free-fall.
Oh how I hate those who voted for Obama.

no it is stupid thinking , even thinking that Britain would have been better losing to NAZI Germany.
Infact I am at a loss even to thinking how anyone would think NAZI;s running Europe is a good thing.
Britain and America might not be perfect but it is a hell of a lot better than being run by a bunch of racist Govt controlled mass murdering NAZI’s
