Germany's thrilling strike force tore apart old rivals England to reach the World Cup quarter-finals on Sunday in a 4-1 win marked by an extraordinary blunder from the Uruguayan referee who ruled out a good goal.
- In an incident-packed game at Bloemfontein's Free State Stadium, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski took advantage of some shambolic defending by the Three Lions to put Germany 2-0 up after 32 minutes before Matthew Upson headed one back
Minutes later, a shot by England's Frank Lampard went over the goalkeeper, hit the bar and bounced behind the goal-line.
But neither referee Jorge Larrionda nor his assistants saw the goal, and waved play on.
The sense of injustice burning among England's legions of passionate fans dimmed, however, when Thomas Mueller scored two in quick succession in the second half.

Yes of course in therms of fair play it would be the right thing to do. So in a perfekt world yes they should have done this (as should the others).
But then again since we all have to live in this world
this will never happen.
The world is not fair nor is it everytime “wise” for you
in personal to be the only fair or honest person around.
Sad but true.
When you look at the mess the world is in today how much of it can be tied to a lack of honor & decency. There is certainly barely a trace of either in our governance, it's all corrupt, disgusting self-serving and we are constantly bombarded by a culture of narcissism and winning at all costs.
What a refreshing change if Germany had let England score to go 2-2, but in this world, a fantasy. Sure the world isn't fair, why does some poor kid 5 years old get cancer and end up dying. But it would be nice to see some fairness in the things we can control.
Funny. You do realise that half of the people that watched that final are dead? What was "even Steven" for them?
Which only underscores what should've been obvious: two wrongs don't make it right.

what are you on about?
This is s sports thread and you harp on about Germany winning the war.
so you first said it might have been better if the NAZI Germany had won the war and now you blame immigration on England loosing the world cup
congratulations on posting two of the most stupid posts ever on FR and done it in your short time on here .
Tell you what , look at your own country Ireland first and see what a shambles it is and see how they have been taking money form the EU for decades or how ireland has done nothing on the football/soccer stage and then come back and have a go at other countries until then.
No, really?
The first goal scored was by Argentina and was clearly offsides and should not have been counted.
Do you claim that Argentina are not honest or decent because they did not allow Mexico to score?
When a decision is made in error in sports, there is no valid issue of honesty or decency. Such a thing is part of the sport and technically could happen to either side. People who enter on the field of sport accept such risks.
yes really and to read a post saying it might have been better for England to have lost the war to NAZI GERMANY IS BEYOND STUPID
ASTOUNDING
Hey, you replied to me in #17 and all these humourless “patriots” are dissing you, without letting me know that I fully agree with ya. Anyways, the Germans didn’t have to win WWII, they already have their own inside the Buckingham Palace!

I suspect very soon most of the Irish national team will have Polish names.
I take it then that you really think that the Nazis were scum, right? Thanks for letting us all know at last, we’ve been actually holding our breaths waiting for this opinion since, oh, the Nuremberg Trials.
Podolski and Klose are actually Poles who emigrated to Germany as adults or near adults, I don’t quite remember. I’ve heard they even have dual citizenships.
why do you think the NAZIS should have beat the Brits and us in the war?
Why do you think you have to respond with such force and emotional attachment to silly posts like #17?
tell you what I’ll answer seeing as you have just showed you are unable to answer a simple question.
Yes I think there has been some decent posts on this thread and a very stupid one by bringing up a war and saying the NAZI’s might have been better winning the second world war .
Now is it possible for you to answer such a couple of simple questions.
Do you think the NAZI’s should have won the second world war against the Brits and America?
Do you think the NAZIS were scum or do you support the NAZIS
simple yes or no would suffice
you say posts 17 is silly and yet later you say you agree with the silly post about maybe it would be better if the NAZI Germany would have won the war.
which is it?
silly or you just agree with silly posts?
Your questions to me are absurd. As are you assumptions.
You need learn to recognize rhetorical devices, as well as sarcasm and irony. When someone says as in post # 17, “I wish that the Nazis had won the war”, he is using a rhetorical device to express certain frustrations with the present situation, and not expressing a wish that cannot come true no matter what any of us does or thinks. And that is what Paddy Irish did in #17.
