Chicago Supt. Jody Weis said today he "simply cannot understand" how the man charged with gunning down an officer "can have such a total disregard of life."
"The entire department is saddened beyond belief," Weis said hours after Bryant Brewer, 24, was charged. "The entire city should be enraged."
Brewer is accused of grabbing Officer Thor Soderberg's gun and fatally shooting him in the parking lot of a police facility in Englewood Wednesday afternoon. He was shot and wounded by officers and remains at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
"I simply cannot understand how a person can have such a total disregard of life and for those who keep order on our streets that he could attack, disarm and then shoot and kill a uniformed police officer in broad daylight," Weis said at police headquarters, 3510 S. Michigan Ave.

What more disregard for life do you need for proof?
In Tampa last week, two police officers were murdered in cold blood - both shot in the head. The piece of excrement that did it was on the loose for four days before he finally turned himself in. The female piece of excrement, who was driving their car, just got released on bail today. A heck of a lot of folks here (including me) think this is very unfair. Our city is still grieving over the two murdered policemen. The shooter is also a suspect in three other murders. It’s a crappy world around here these days.
The entire country should be enraged at the total breakdown of civil order in our cities, and radiating outward from them, and we should be electing leaders who will do something about it.
I’m convinced that the liberals who run our cities, and now our country, don’t think we have the moral rectitide to go after criminals, and hold them accountable for their crimes.
I’m equally convinced that the reason these same liberals keep getting re-elected to run our cities is that most of the city voters are either criminals or related to criminals.
Lancaster PA had a Republican mayor who had reduced the murder rate in 2005 to one, while neighboring York PA had 15 that year. York’s mayor was re-elected that year, and Lancaster’s was defeated by a liberal, and Lancaster’s crime rate has been rising ever since.
Maybe an armed passerby could have intervened.
