Justice Loses Its Stars and Stripes
American Spectator ^ | 16 july 2010

Posted on 07/16/2010 4:15:42 AM PDT by rellimpank

What's black and white and "red" all over? The Department of Justice's newly designed website. Gone are the standard red, white, and blue motifs, replaced by an all-black backdrop. And prominently placed on virtually every page of the site is a quote credited to a man who facilitated a greater role for socialists and communists at the U.N., and the global "workers rights movement."

The redesigned website was launched without fanfare, but was noticed internally by several career lawyers, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of political reprisals. "We were told that the media team and the senior leadership that signed off on the design thought that the patriotic shtick from the Ashcroft days was a bit much for an agency that isn't supposed to be political," says a DOJ lawyer, who inquired about the redesign. "It was a real effort not to laugh at that."

Prominent now on the site are links to "Justice.gov en Español" and the "The Recovery Act and the Department of Justice." But most jarring is the quote that is appears on virtually every page of the website. "The common law is the will of mankind issuing from the life of the people," which, some DOJ staff say, is tied to a man who ushered in the socialist and communist theories that now permeate the United Nations.

Another DOJ lawyer says, "It's taken from an inscription along one of the outer walls of the department ["The common law derives from the will of mankind, issuing from the life of the people, framed by mutual confidence, and sanctioned by the light of reason"], but no one is sure where the quote came from."

I wonder how many people felt this way when Russia was taken over by the commies?

I don’t have enough history to know if things were bad under the Czar but did he starve 30 million people to death? (or was it 45)

****I wonder how many people felt this way when Russia was taken over by the commies?****

From the article:

“several career lawyers, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of political reprisals”

Does that answer your question Mr. K?

The color black is appropriate for Obozo’s Department of One-Sided Justice.

There's a quote by Ayn Rand from "Atlas Shrugged" that really fits the Obama regime and their "department of justice."

"You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against -- then you'll know that this is not the age for beautiful gestures. We're after power and we mean it. Your fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and you'd better get wise to it. There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted -- and you create a nation of law-breakers -- and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system...that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be easier to deal with."

Holder has some objection to red, white, and blue.

Seriously, there are several people in this Administration who need to go.

That all the freebies you have left to give away, dog food. Next we move on to guns and gulags to store people for disposal.

Have you seen the new US penny? I can’t identify the shield on the back side. It feels lighter than the old one.

None of the Czars killed as many people in as short of a period of time as the Communists did in the Ukraine in the 1930s.

However, even ordinary life under the Czars was very bad: most people were serfs or slaves until 1861, and there was no freedom of movement for these people.

After the "emancipation" in 1861 when many of these people were able to acquire land, however, they were subjected to making enormous annual payments for that land, and many (probably most) of the peasants didn't receive plots big enough to make a living.

re: "The common law is the will of mankind issuing from the life of the people"

Whatever the origin of this quotation it is a stupid and highly misleading item to have at the top of our DOJ home page. The USA does NOT depend upon the "will of mankind" to determine our laws, and our constitutional law tradition is not the same as "common law" at all. Of course our legal systems have relied extensively upon the common law tradition, fusing US and UK legal precedents in many areas, but our CONSTITUTION is primary and is (supposed to be) the will of "We the People" in the USA, not the "will of mankind"

The "will of mankind" ought to be influence by US constitutional law but the idea that US laws are nothing more than the "will of mankind" is pernicious, completely inaccurate (to date anyway), and subversive of our constitutional tradition.

In light of the current New Black Panthers outrage with DOJ, the link you provided to show the flag motif before being turned to BLACK coincidentally had an article under it about voter integrity. The link to all
of his comments are no longer available.

Remarks Prepared for Delivery by Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey at
the Ballot Access and Voting Integrity Symposium

July 02, 2008

Elections, and the vote upon which they depend, are the bedrock of
democracy. They are the principal way the people of this country hold our
government leaders to account, and exercise our collective will. But we can
do that successfully only if all of those entitled to vote are able to do so, and
if all those votes are counted equally. And we can have confidence that the
outcome of an election represents our will only if we have confidence in the
process that produces that outcome.

These things are accumulating on a daily, sometimes hourly, basis until I’ve become numb to them. The ability to be shocked has eroded like a stone on which water drips at a continual pace. I think that’s part of their plan.
