Ombudsman: Washington Post 'Virtually Silent' on Black Panther Case
FOX News ^ | Published July 18, 2010

The Washington Post ombudsman on Sunday chided his newspaper for ignoring the voter intimidation case against the New Black Panther Party, saying The Post remained "virtually silent" as the story developed in recent weeks.

The newspaper carried a full-length news article about the case on Thursday. But ombudsman Andrew Alexander wrote that readers have been contacting him "for months" wondering what was taking so long for The Post to show interest in the controversy.

"The Post didn't cover it. Indeed, until Thursday's story, The Post had written no news stories about the controversy this year," Alexander wrote. "That's prompted many readers to accuse The Post of a double standard."

Alexander wrote that while the newspaper should not feel obligated to cover stories "simply because of blogosphere chatter," the Black Panther story merits attention.

"Coverage is justified because it's a controversy that screams for clarity that The Post should provide," Alexander wrote.

Now the Post can move on to their lack of fact-checkers for the Obama family vacation in Maine. They reported their hiking of a little hill up there as climbing the “highest peak on the East Coast’: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2010/07/obamas-enjoy-family-vacation-i.html.

“Coverage is justified because it’s a controversy that screams for clarity that The Post should provide,”

I’m sure stuff like this all happened before the liberals owned the papers....

The Washington Post has always been a pinko paper.

I had to laugh at that. I guess it depends on how you define "on the coast." Maybe to Wapo dullards, a few miles inland doesn't count.

It is the highest mountain “on the East coast” but obviously not the highest mountain if you go inland a few miles. And I’ve hiked it and it is a challenge although at the time I hiked it I was about 50 pounds heavier than I am now. It depends on where they started the trail and whether they hiked down it which is actually harder than hiking up it.

Usually when people are talking about the greatest something on the East or West Coast they are talking about the whole region, unless it is something water related. Sounds from your response that this claim has been made about this molehill before, but it’s just silly.

I agree that it’s silly and we asked for clarification of this claim made by every park ranger down to bus driver on the island - the clarification is what I said in post 11. It is right on the coast and in fact it is the coast, rising almost directly from the sea. Pretty cool place and sad that they feel that they have to make silly claims.

Must be part of his Muhammed imitation, you know, if you can’t bring Obama to Mt. Washington...

Next thing you know they’ll be telling us that Obama is the best-ever basketball player out of Chicago.

The Washington Compost is just trying to emulate their colleagues in North Korea. Maybe they’re hoping to report Obama golfing a perfect game, too.
