Whatever your opinion of President Obama, there's no question he has spectacularly revived the number and quality of musical performances in the White House.

Look no further than "Paul McCartney: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song in Performance at the White House," taped early last month and screening on PBS on Wednesday, the fourth "In Performance" show thus far during his young administration.

Yes, Sir Paul is English. But the award is not restricted to U.S. citizens. Named in honor of brothers Ira and George Gershwin, the award is given to a composer or performer whose lifetime work exemplifies the standard of excellence associated with the Gershwins. The first one, in 2007, was won by Paul Simon. The second was awarded last year to Stevie Wonder.

Yeah, because there’s nothing that Americans who are pinching pennies care about more than whether the King and Queen in Washington are being entertained enough.

0bama’s White House seems to be like a nouveau riche family who got their money from winning a lottery. Never-ending parties and vacations in exotic places. With now and then attending board, erh..., cabinet meetings.

My thoughts exactly. Well put.

This was weeks ago that McCartney sang for his White House supper. Have you been living under a rock or in a worm hole?

Or, more accurately: Whatever your opinion of President Obama, there's no question he has spectacularly indulged himself by using his position to get an incredible number of famous popular musicians to put on shows for him at the White House. He's done he same with chefs and athletes.

Back in the 1970s he barely played any of his Beatle McCartney- Lennon songs. But lately he is doing them all in concert. Why? He lost the royalties for his Beatles recorded (Apple) songs and he can sell the concert recordings. He was a great artist at one time.

Yeah, Linda was a kook but she seemed to keep him in a little pocket of reality.

That nasty little remark he made... totally uncalled for and embarrassingly fawning .. the one about ‘at least this administration knows what a library is.’

How clueless can a human being be? Laura Bush was a librarian. She constantly promoted reading, libraries, held literary seminars and book festivals. Probably the most library conscious person ever in the White House.

I wonder how many books are on the bedside tables at the Obama White House?

Jesus! Get a room you two and have at each other! What a puking pathetic gay romance! I guess after paying off a one-legged whore a billion or two Obama must look pretty good to Paul! Wait, isn’t he dead? I keep playing the record backwards! Imagine there’s no heaven,....without Barack! How can we keep these two tortured gays apart any longer! Oh the misery!
