President Obama will make history as the first sitting president on a daytime talk show when he visits with the ladies of "The View." But he'll be missing out on another historic occasion -- the Boy Scouts' Jamboree marking the group's 100th anniversary, right in the president's backyard. The Jamboree kicked off this week at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia, where organizers had invited the president to speak to the 45,000 scouts in attendance. All three of Obama's predecessors have made it to one Jamboree while in office. But the president will instead be traveling Wednesday to New York for a taping of the ABC show, as well as Democratic fundraisers and a stop in New Jersey. The talk show appearance comes as campaign season moves into full swing, but also amid efforts to cap the Gulf oil spill for good, contain the damage from an unprecedented leak of Afghanistan war documents and battle Arizona over its immigration law -- set to go into effect Thursday. Obama also has an out-of-town event planned for Friday in Detroit. But while the Jamboree lasts until next Tuesday, the president is sending his regards via a videotaped message.
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, a fellow Democrat, scoffed at the idea of a president appearing on The View. I think the president should be accessible, should answer questions that aren't pre-screened, but I think there should be a little bit of dignity to the presidency, Rendell told MSNBC, at one point comparing "The View" to "The Jerry Springer Show."

I won’t be watching any news shows tomorrow. don’t care about the view, don’t watch it and so won’t watch it being on news shows either. I have better things to do with my time like enjoy my family.
The Scouts are America.
A few famous scouts

The closest any of them came to serving the people was Babs doing the wild thing with Ed Brooke.
Springer was elected twice as mayor of a great US city, once after doing the right thing after doing a wrong thing.
Obama has never sat for an interview with as capable an interrogator as Springer. Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University in political science.Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Northwestern University.
Gee whiz, even Jimmuh Cahtah, the call-in President, didn’t go on a daytime show.
Indeed, I’ve seen Springer interviewed, and he’s very different from what one would think from his show. His show, though, probably isn’t what the View’s people want their show to be compared to.
He doesn’t want to offend the gays out there who still despise the Boy Scouts. Playing politics trumps everything with these people.
We have a few scouts in our sons troop who will make Eagle this year.
Every year since this troop has been going (nearly 50 years), every Eagle has been awarded a presidential letter (autopen I’m sure), but it is a big deal to these kids.
The troop leader informed us parents that the white house will not be doing that this year, and we should contact our local congressman to get a letter from them.
We were told that this is the first president in history who has not supported the scouts.
The kicker is, this is the 100 year anniversary, so it is a really huge deal to the kids and scout leaders.
My gawd, I can't believe Ed Rendell and I are in agreement. Whoopi and Walters will break their backs kissing The One's posterior.
This is terrible. It is way beyond politics.
I keep thinking President Obama's advisors are serving him poorly to let him make such mistakes, then I woke up. I sometimes almost think he means to insult all that is American.
I was looking at a list of famous Scouts, thinking President Obama certainly has one Scout among the people he listens to. One of the few I found that might have influence was Steven Spielberg. Bill Clinton was a Cub.

From the above ;
(Defense Secretary) Gates earned the top rank of Eagle Scout as a youth in his native Kansas. He also received the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award before he graduated from high school.
If Secretary of Defense Gates , can't tell him , nobody can. I would send Gates a telegram , I am serious. Maybe he would sign off on the certificates, he is a good man
I have had a good life with some success, awards, medals, badges, plaques, degrees , but the accomplishment I failed to complete is the one I might have the most respect for, Eagle Scout.
Bless your Scout and bless you as parents. I am told almost no Scout earns his Eagle without support and direction at home. Congratulations.
Oh, not our boy, he’s a few years away, but thank you anyway.
He’s well on the road, but he still has 2 more years, and its a struggle to keep him interested at times, its work for all of us.
We have 3 boys in our sons troop that will earn the badges this year, our son is not one of them, not yet anyways.
In any event, its disheartening, that those that are up for Eagle, have put years into the work. They will of course get the badge, but they will always know they didn’t get the presidential support, during the 100 year anniversary of scouting, and they will not have the presidential letter framed on their wall. That is something Eagles who are my age are proud of and they show them off.
We have an adult leader in our troop who has a Ronald Reagan one, that he earned when he made Eagle, it is his most prized possession, and it sits over his fireplace. Well, you get the point. No matter which president, its still an honor, imho.
What gets me even more.... Our son volunteered to be a helper at a camp this year, he was gone for 3 weeks. When we went to pick him up, the parking lot was packed, because it was a rotation of troops, so about 100 troops were leaving that Sunday, and a new batch coming in. So, the parking lot was packed to the brim, all the way out to the road. Well, we spotted no less than 6 Obama stickers in the lot. These people are clueless.
It was like seeing pro-abortion stickers at church (don’t get me started on that one, my brother belongs to a mega-church that supports abortion, gay marriage, etc). It just doesn’t add up to me.
Agreed wholeheartedly.
Obama's appearance at the Scout Jamboree would be akin to someone bringing drums full of toxic waste to a wedding reception.
In any case as a former boy scout, I remember one quality that was taught was integrity. One trait that the punk president will never have.
His absence will mean nothing.
Heck, I wouldn’t mind flirting with the moms. The big difference? I’m not the POTUS.
The sad thing is that the acting President of the US is an honorary President of the Boy Scouts. Reagan signed my Eagle Scout Award. the only thing I’d like to see Barry sign would be his resignation.
Here’s an idea: how about writing the former President Bush and telling him of your predicament? I’ll bet he would be honored to write your Scouts a letter.
The only thing I can surmise by this is would Obama rather talk to a bunch of kids whose parents are probably Conservative or talk to his base, crazy Liberals?
Now would probably be a good time to run ads saying that Obama doesn’t care about children.
Wow, that's incredible. Some things should transcend politics, but apparently not for Obama.
Mine is framed and hanging on the wall. It's signed by Richard Nixon. :-)
but the view is far more important.
I mean going on that show with a crowd watching who for the most part are just too dumb to understand what is going on in this country is far more important for him.
His questions will be how is breakfast in the white house and o my you look sexy .
The crowd claps and cheers but ask them a minute later what he said they will have no idea.
This man has made the presidency look like a part time joke of a job .
People dying, people losing jobs, two wars, debt, Govt take over of heath care which does not work (I lived it I know) etc etc etc and this man goes on a day time womens show who has a crowd which has no clue what the hell is going on in this country
