Debate Heats Up About Mosque Near Ground Zero
NY Times ^ | July 30, 2010 | MICHAEL BARBARO

An influential Jewish organization on Friday announced its opposition to a proposed Islamic center and mosque two blocks north of ground zero in Lower Manhattan, intensifying a fierce national debate about the limits of religious freedom and the meaning of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The decision by the group, the Anti-Defamation League, touched...

Those who are fighting the project argue that building a house of Muslim worship so close to ground zero is at best an affront to the families of those who died there and at worst an act of aggression that would, they say, mark the place where radical Islam achieved a blow against the United States.

“The World Trade Center is the largest loss of American life on our soil since the Civil War,” Mr. Gingrich said. “And we have not rebuilt it, which drives people crazy. And in that setting, we are told, why don’t we have a 13-story mosque and community center?”

He added: “The average American just thinks this is a political statement. It’s not about religion, and is clearly an aggressive act that is offensive.”

Several family members of victims at the World Trade Center have weighed in against the plan, saying it would desecrate what amounts to a graveyard. “When I look over there and see a mosque, it’s going to hurt,” C. Lee Hanson, whose son, Peter, was killed in the attacks, said at a recent public hearing. “Build it someplace else.”

--snip--

City officials, particularly Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, have forcefully defended the project on the grounds of religious freedom, saying that government has no place dictating where a house of worship is located. The local community board has given overwhelming backing to the project, and the city’s landmarks commission is expected to do the same on Tuesday...

Idiots who think this is a religion defend it.
Normal people know it’s a world-domination ideology cleverly disguised as a religion and oppose it.

We always hear about how we need to be more “tolerant” of other religions. Can someone explain to me why the muslims are not being asked to be more “tolerant” of our feelings in this matter? After all, it’s a two way street.

Its so obvious that these Muslims are taunting the victims, their families and America with the name and location of this project.

It would be such a shame if this cesspool or mosque (the distinction escapes me)were torched several times during construction thereby delaying completion, driving up costs, making insurance prohibitively expensive and finally forcing the city to declare it an unacceptable danger to the community.

Such a shame

You may be right of course...but it is also possible that Islam is Lucifer's very own custom-designed religion for sand Nazi's.

He's pretty good at this kind of stuff...just look what he's done for Obama, Alinsky, and the Liberals.

And probing the emotional and psychological defenses of their enemies.

Debate Heats Up About Mosque Near Ground Zero

Debate? Debate!? Why is there any question at all about this? The immediate, first, and final answer on this should have been "H**l no!" This obviously has nothing to do with religion, it is all about insulting America and giving a boost to radical Islam around the world.

A Mosque at ground zero? No, not now, not ever.

How about we put a Marine training base in the heart of Mecca? Maybe a low-rent brothel and a McDonalds selling bacon egg and cheese McMuffins in the town center of Medina?

Bloomberg is not now, and never has been, either a Republican,a republican,or a servant of the people.

He was a hard core life-long liberal who bought the office in the first place because he knew he couldn't win the rat's primary. Money bags isn't a native of NYC, but the shmuck got the City Council to revoke a two term limit on being mayor that was voted twice in referenda by NYC voters.

Even worse:

New York - The commission appointed by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to review the city’s constitution and put possible changes on the ballot this year is considering the option of rolling back term limits to two terms.

It’s interesting that Scientology is even dorkier than Islam, but at least the Scientology folks are mostly Hollywood types whose cojones are so small they’d make the Obamaloon look manly.

The New York City Charter Revision Commission will hold public hearings in all five boroughs to discuss and receive public input on the Preliminary Staff Report and Recommendations to the Chair of the Charter Commission, as well as other aspects of the Commission’s work. The hearing will be streamed live via webcast through this website.

Monday, August 2

  • Place: PS 58 - Space Shuttle Columbia School Auditorium, 77 Marsh Ave, STATEN ISLAND

  • Time: 6 p.m.

  • Directions: From the Staten Island Ferry, take the S61 or S91 bus to the Staten Island Mall stop.  Other buses that stop at the Staten Island Mall near the school are the S55, S56, S79, X17, or X31.  The closest Staten Island Rail stop is the Oakwood Heights station.

***NOTE: THE COMMISSION WILL MEET TO DISCUSS COMMISSION BUSINESS FIRST AND WILL THEN ACCEPT PUBLIC TESTIMONY

This is the last meeting. The City Charter should be amended so that the NYC Council can NOT revoke, repeal or in anyway override the results of any referendum of the NYC voters.

I doubt Bloomboob would have been reelected had the voters known about his approval of this ground zero abomination.

Paladino changes his mind in race for governor

FReepmail me if you want on or off my New York ping list.
