ANKARA, Turkey (AP) -- The state-run news agency says a groom has killed his father and two aunts after opening fire into the air with an automatic weapon to celebrate his wedding.
The Anatolia news agency says eight other relatives were injured during Sunday's celebration in the southeastern province of Gaziantep.

Wedding? I’m surprised they just didn’t blame this on the U.S. military.

" says the groom lost control of the weapon and accidentally aimed at guests."
I think he ended up shooting a bunch of people standing behind him.

“What goes up must come down”
What goes up isn't the problem. Contrary to myth, a bullet fired straight up rarely has significant energy when it lands.
This case, like most, involves “losing control of the weapon and pointing it at the guests”. Much more effective at ridding oneself of those pesky “in-laws”.

“What goes up isn’t the problem. Contrary to myth, a bullet fired straight up rarely has significant energy when it lands.”
However, bullets are rarely fired literally straight up and any arc can add significantly to the impact velocity.

What goes up isn't the problem. Sometimes it is. Sometimes the tards will send an rpg or even a mortar straight up. Depends on where they're celebrating.

How can it both work and be junk? It can definitely be ugly and either of the other two.
You would think losing control of a firearm around in laws would be more widespread.

"Contrary to myth,"
I would like to see a study of the Arafat Funeral as a case example.
Great video of the pallbearers (sic) shooting into the air, and 12 +/- seconds later seeing people in the background dropping. Repeating steps 1&2 for most of an hour.

Last year saw a video of a young Kurdish groom being accidentally shot in the head at a weeding. His new father-in-law got a little crazy and careless with the Ak-47, and blew the top of the kids head off. I do alot of shooting, but don't get the wedding and shooting guns thing.

Sometimes it is. Sometimes the tards will send an rpg or even a mortar straight up. Depends on where they're celebrating. If it's a first wedding, do they use the traditional white RPG or go with an all-purpose tan or green RPG?

a groom has killed his father and two aunts after opening fire into the air with an automatic weapon to celebrate his wedding. You'd think that some day they'd learn that firing weapons in the air, and especially losing control of them during these lunatic celebrations, is actually very dangerous. Traditions dies hard, I guess.

Don't laugh. I was married to one.

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

“any arc can add significantly to the impact velocity.”
That’s true, but how could a bullet shot allegedly shot in the air at a wedding hit someone else at the same wedding unless it went pretty much straight up and down?
All you’re saying is that a rifle shot at a 45 degree angle rather than 90 degree angle is more likely to kill anyone it happens to hit, which no one would dispute, since the former, unlike the latter, never comes to a resting stop before returning to earth.

All-purpose, I think. I actually have heard of two weddings being blown up in this way. All a bit of a mystery, until some bright spot recounted what they did.
