State Department officials on Monday confirmed Feisal Abdul Rauf, the Imam of the so-called Ground Zero Mosque, will soon be going on a trip of the Middle East and the U.S. government will be picking up the tab.
The planned construction of a mosque near Ground Zero in New York City has set off a contentious national debate over religious freedom in the U.S., drawing impassioned opposition from some families of 9/11 victims.
Rauf has emerged as a controversial figure because of his refusal to acknowledge Hamas as a terrorist organization, which is how the U.S. government classifies the group. The imam also has been quoted as saying U.S. foreign policy was in part responsible for the 9/11 attacks.
He is a distinguished Muslim cleric, said State Department Spokesman P.J. Crowley. We do have a program whereby, through our Educational and Cultural Affairs Bureau here at the State Department, we send people from Muslim communities here in this country around the world to help people overseas understand our society and the role of religion within our society.
Rauf and his partners are preparing to build a $100 million Islamic center and mosque near Ground Zero, where on September 11, 2001 two airliners hijacked by al-Qaeda terrorists, slammed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, killing nearly 3,000 innocents.
The project, known as Park 51, cleared a final hurdle on August 3rd, when decision by New York Citys Landmarks Preservation Commission cleared the way for construction. The tower could span up to 15 stories and will house a mosque, a 500-seat auditorium and a pool.

The mosque is very short of the $100 million and apparently does not even own a chunk of the land on which they want to build it.
Alan posted that Holland/Netherlands is in part subsidizing the building of this mosque.
What better way to do some clandestine fund raising than on a trip to the most likely countries to chip into the pot.
Thus, the US government (Oba-Abdullah-Hussein) is aiding and abetting the funding of this project. using public funds available in the State Department.
Possibly from the several hundred thousand dollar special State Dept, budget allocated to the Persian opposition of the Islamic Iranian regime in the USA, which he cancelled almost immediately after taking office.
Don’t specially have much respect for Hitlery but here I believe she is followng orders. And quietly feathering her nest in case she runs in 2012 and wants the Moslem vote and support and funding for her campaign.

It’s past time to climb in the RAT/RINO gutter and fight for our lives and our freedom. Exposure, exposure, exposure is what they fear. The enemies within have exposed themselves for the traitors they are. Now, show the voters the truth.
It’s pathetic when a blind man sees the temper of the people better than our president:

Gov. Paterson offers state help to relocate mosque
ALBANY - New York Gov. David Paterson offered state help Tuesday if the developers of a proposed mosque near the site of the Sept. 11 attacks agree to move the project farther from the site.
Paterson, a Democrat, said that he doesnt oppose the project as planned but indicated that he understands where opponents are coming from. He said he was willing to intervene to seek other suitable state property if the developers agreed.
I think its rather clear that building a center there meets all the requirements, but it does seem to ignite an immense amount of anxiety among the citizens of New York and people everywhere, and I think not without cause, Paterson said in a news conference in Manhattan.
I am very sensitive to the desire of those who are adamant against it to see something else worked out, Paterson said.
The developers declined to comment. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who last week made an impassioned defense of the project planned for lower Manhattan, also had no immediate comment.
Paterson said he expects the state Public Service Commission, which must sign off on the project, to follow the law and not politics in its review.
Paterson noted that we really are still suffering in many respects from Sept. 11 and that impassioned feelings were bound to emerge from a mosque just a couple of blocks from where nearly 3,000 people died at the hands of Muslim extremists. ......see more
Lazio: Let’s pull plug on mosque

GOP gubernatorial hopeful Rick Lazio yesterday called on the Public Service Commission to zap the Ground Zero mosque because of the revelation that Con Ed owns half the site.
“As governor I will appoint commissioners . . . who, like me, oppose this group’s plan to build a mosque at Ground Zero — and I encourage New Yorkers to call the Public Service commissioners and tell them the same,” he said.
The disclosure in Sunday’s Post about the property’s ownership proves the mosque’s developers “have been operating under false pretenses,” he said.
The commission, which oversees utility rate hikes, may get to weigh in on the controversial plan if Con Ed sells its building on Park Place to mosque developer Sharif El-Gamal.
El-Gamal, of Soho Properties, paid $700,000 last year to take over a 99-year lease on the utility’s building and has said he wants to buy it outright.
That could trigger a review by the commission, whose five members are appointed by the governor.
They have the power to reject a sale if it could impact the utility’s capacity to deliver services.
Assemblyman Richard Brodsky (D-Westchester), who chairs the committee on corporation, authorities and commissions, personally opposes the mosque, saying, “This is the site of mass murder. It would be much better if the parties could get together and figure out something that is reasonable.”
But Brodsky, a candidate for attorney general, said he won’t get involved.
“The law has to be fairly applied to everyone without regard to religious views,” he said.

Thanks for the ping!
This is another column I’ve never seen before and yet you are posting to me, and I have no idea who Alan is.
Where did you get that list of ‘to’ names, take my name off it so I don’t get pinged to all the wrong pongs, please.
This is such BS. Money is being funneled through Holland probably via the Saudis. They fund EVERY mosque built in the West usually through the Muslim Brotherhood. CIAR is also involved.
Just realize when you want TV - every network which owns every cable channel supports this. If you have cable or sat TV - your monthly payments support this.
Alan is AntiMullah.com
You name is gone
Bye
Every TV network is behind it as well. If you pay for cable or sat TV - you are supporting it every month with your payment. All the networks own all the channels. They are all behind this.
No argument that Dutch money is a channel for Moslem money. The rest about TV is like saying that every time you drive you contribute to Moslem money funds. True but unavoidable.
cheers
So are we sending Scientologists to their planet too?
What happened to separation of religion and state?
The mosque is very short of the $100 millionThanks FARS.
Thanks for the info FARS. I hate that NYC is allowing them to do this. Maybe someone can open a PigglyWiggly store next to it, lol.
Thanks for the video, now with some editorial comment added at:

“Rauf Pinkie Swears: No Fundraising on Taxpayers Dime”

The State Department is sending distinguished cleric, Feisal Abdul Rauf on a jaunt to the Middle East at taxpayer expense. Our State Department believes that the imam who wants to built a monument to jihad six hundred feet from Ground Zero is the ideal delegate to help people overseas understand our society and the role of religion within our society.
This is merely the latest imbecility from pro-terrorist Soros serf, P.J. Crowley. Prior to joining his comrades in the Obama administration, Crowley was Senior Fellow and Director of Homeland Security at the Center for American Progress (CAP); a George Soros cabal.
Thanks for the ping!
