Authorities say the former Boston University medical student accused of killing a masseuse he met through Craigslist is dead from an apparent jailhouse suicide in Boston.
Ed Geary, a spokesman for the Suffolk County sheriff's office, says Philip Markoff was declared dead by emergency medical workers at about 10:15 Sunday morning. The body was found in the Nashua Street Jail.
"Sad to say, it's very true. It's shocking and very saddening," Markoff's defense attorney John Salsberg told the BostonHerald.com.

My favorite line in these situations is: “He was just beginning to turn his life around.”
He turned it around all right.
Oh, well. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Thanks for saving the taxpayers millions of dollars on a three-ring circus of a trial.
Again with the disordered and irrational slant of the press and the elite that drives it. Nobody gives a eff that the monster is dead, including his phony-ass council.
Really, devere, a sad end? More like the best thing that could have happened once the thrill killer chose his life of evil. Why do people elevate such blots on humanity to persons once-promising? It is, in itself, disordered, irrational, and accessory to evil.
He was as you say, an ego out of hand, an example of “rudra”.
The problem likely was that he was being biatch slapped nightly by a 300 pound gorilla who made him his tenderloin.
Thats just the way prison is.
He surely pished off some of the prison administrators IMHO.

His mouthpiece is SADDENED?? Well sure...it cost him money and face time on CNN!!!
Bush’s fault.
I’m happy and pleased.
But now we will never know if he was really guilty. Oh well....
//sarcasm off
Sweet!
“I think the lawyer is “sad” because he didn’t get PAID”
There. Fixed it!/s;)
Why do I have a strange feeling that Bernard Madoff is next?
These softies can’t do hard time when they do the crime.
Free ads, no slimy adult hookup section, and you can use your Youtube videos etc. AND, they have a plan to give away amazing travel, etc.

People do sometimes partially redeem themselves, even during a life in prison. Nathan Leopold comes to mind. And of course we are unfortunately quite aware of criminals at the highest levels of government who will never be punished. I have nothing against the death penalty for murderers, if we are certain of their guilt. But once society decides on life in prison as the penalty, we owe it to OURSELVES to behave in a civilized manner. I’m not clear on whether the savage attitude toward prison inmates often expressed on this website is due to an understandable frustration with crime, or just a more general desire to express hatred toward any socially acceptable target.
Philip Markoff certainly deserved the misfortune he brought upon himself. I do sympathize with his parents and former fiancee. Perhaps the finality of his death is the least painful outcome for them.
There are few things that offer less possibility of doubt than that the murderer’s family are, indeed, better off.
Moral relativism never made anything better and I’m thankful it can be profoundly ill-at-ease here.
The Free Republic forum isn’t great all the time. It’s just great more often than anywhere else on the web. Some posters can be absolutist and harsh but they hardly define the culture here. Civility is uppermost with most.
“Why do I have a strange feeling that Bernard Madoff is next?”
Not likely.

John Salvi “offed” himself out there in Mass back in 96

I agree with you. Also a common statement is, "may he burn in hell". When I see that statement, I always click on the screen name of the commenter, to see if they describe themselves as Christians, many do and it is a most unChristian sentiment.
