What part of ‘civilian control’ did you miss, Marine?

On Tuesday, lacking even the excuse that a Rolling Stone reporter tricked him, another top U.S. military commander thumbed his nose at President Barack Obama's policies in Afghanistan.

Marine Corps Commandant James T. Conway, 62, Tuesday told a roomful of reporters at the Pentagon that Mr. Obama's July 2011 deadline for beginning troop withdrawals from Afghanistan is "probably giving our enemy sustenance.... We've intercepted communications that say, ‘Hey, you know, we only have to hold out for so long.'"

Gen. Conway went on to say that Mr. Obama was no doubt "talking to several audiences" when he announced the July 2011 deadline, suggesting that the president may have being coy when he outlined his Afghanistan policy in a speech at West Point last December.

I knew E7s with 16 and 18 years who got out back in the ‘90s when Slick Willy was president because they couldn’t take it any more. It has to be much worse now.

I had 13.5 years of active duty and national guard time when the Bush vs. Gore stuff was going on. I would not have re-enlisted and finished my 20 years if Gore had become POTUS.

I hate to say it but there has to be order and public respect for the CIC.

You've been watching too many Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood episodes. FUBO

If Gen Conway has an issue, and he should, he must resign...

The article mentions the General is retiring next month. I suspect the General staff sees SOOO much incompetance from 1600 PA Ave that they see very serious risks to national security--so they really want to get the word out, and pressure the White House to at least attempt to fly right, even if that means damaging their own personal careers and reputations.

I do agree that the best advice for anyone who serves is to serve by the letter of their code. Serve with honor.

I do understand that many in the military are in dire need of support on how to deal with the left-wing attack that is going on. I want brave people to do what is right when neccesary but at the same time I would advice to seriously consider any actions that breach your code of conduct and put your self in danger that way.

This is one of the toughest issues for me because I want our troops to stand up for themselves. I do not want them to just accept having our Constitution trampled on but I also want them to be safe and secure in where any action leads them.

God Bless the United States Armed Forces. I could never repay my debt. I always vow my respect and gratitude.

What part of "natural born citizen" did you miss, editorial board?

Um, perhaps it’s just me, but Obozo is himself weakening the office of the President every day that goes by. If there had been whistleblowers during his time, perhaps Rome wouldn’t have burned down while Nero fiddled?

I hate to say it but there has to be order and public respect for the CIC.

Where was that order and public respect the previous 8 years? Let me help you - it didn't exist!! Also, why must there be "order" and "public respect" for a man who is working hard every day (that he's not on vacation) to destroy the country he is suppose to be the leader of? If your father was beating his wife nightly, would you keep quiet for the sake of order and public respect? I think not. Obozo deserves no order or public respect when all he has done thus far violates his oath of office.

I understand but do you mean the military too? It's a rotten deal, but what do you want them to do? Revolt? Coup de tat?

I don't dispute your comments on the haloed one, but soldiers in a free society have to respect their superiors and follow orders. General officers get to resign if they feel the orders are wrong or dangerous. The President is CiC, unless Congress removes him. By letting Conway's remarks go unchallenged Obama is weakening the office for those who follow and he may embolden a future Chief to go beyond mere words.

My thanks to your son for his service.

Never thought things could get any worse than the mid-90s — but they are. The Marines especially can’t stomach the usurper, which is partly why our pansy-a$$ed Øne hardly visits them or any of our military. When he does, it’s so staged and controlled.

I hope he leaves Martha’s crap yard with that bacteria that’s reportedly floating in the water or from something nasty contracted from all the shrimp and lobster they’re shoving down their pie holes.

Funny. The left celebrates this behavior when a Republican is in office.
