LIBBY, Mont. (AP) â Instead of saying thanks, some residents rebuked Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Sen. Max Baucus on Monday for the very law that could help potentially thousands of asbestos victims here. The health care reform law passed last year expands Medicare coverage for the sick residents of Libby, where years of asbestos pollution from a vermiculite mine made this the nation's deadliest Superfund site.
About 400 Libby residents have signed up for the new coverage as of this week, Sebelius said.
But many of those from this northwestern Montana town of 3,000 who came to listen to the town hall meeting appeared to be less concerned about how the new law helps those with asbestos illnesses than with the legislation itself.

When it finally hits home, there will be very few people that
won’t want to run these traitors out of town, if not the country.
What’s surprising is that the writer seems surprised at the crowd’s attitude.
Instead of becoming properly bribed and appreciative of Washington’s money for the asbestos/lawyers’ revenues, the crowd was properly irritated and opposed the demo’s steal of their own health care....
Well, the writer may be surprised, but I’m not.
Unfortunately the bill will do none of the things the writer says it will do and to his dismay the citizens of Montana know it.
I was talking to a couple in church who seemed shocked and confused that their returning veteran son had zero intention to sign up for VA health benefits for his injuries incurred in Iraq.
A lot of people are mentally incapable of comprehending it until they are in the system dealing with it. Some people can't grasp things even then.
Give me a frigging break. Didn’t the tort lawyers share the money they sued for asbestos with any of their clients? They certainly took years and years to do it suing everything in sight.
TORT REFORM NOW.
Are you from Mont?
It's an economic disaster area. Americans driving around in junk cars, buildings boarded up, everyone with that hunted look...no jobs, no hope of any.
Because of guys like Baucus. All he can do is show up and promise to compel them to buy crap government insurance?
This ain't gonna end up good for Maxie.
Yes, the author was all over the townspeople for not being appropriately grateful to the plantation masters.
That dog ain’t gonna hunt no mo.
“Instead of becoming properly bribed and appreciative of Washingtons money for the asbestos/lawyers revenues, the crowd was properly irritated and opposed the demos steal of their own health care....”
Why, the very NERVE of those nasty ungrateful peasants!!!/sarcasm
Last year on April 15, when the first Tea Parties hit there was a reporter talking to a man (who had his 2-3 yr old daughter with him) about the $200 tax break he was going to receive under Obama.
She was absolutely incredulous that he was not thankful for the money, she was so stunned he was not impressed with the “Obama’s generosity” for allowing him to have some of his money back.
I’m sure a Freeper with a better memory than I will remember that and who she worked for. The video went viral for a while.
The only reason they had this session in Libby is because Medicare coverage has been expanded to victims of asbestos illnesses. Thousands of residents of Libby have been affected by asbestos from the lawsuit against W.R. Grace and Co. Democrats are exploiting a tragedy by getting residence fooled into signing up for government health care. The government won’t help them because the government said so in the health care bill.
Yeah. Baucus tried to bribe these people by sticking in a provision in the bill that ensures people affected by asbestos would get guaranteed Medicare coverage.
"Mark my words, several years from now, you're going to look back and say, 'Well, that wasn't so bad after all,'" Baucus said.Elitist jerk. Okay, his words are hereby marked.
Typical sneeringly, elitist, condescension crap. People are supposed to fall to their knees and welcome the ruling class giving them "help" you know.
Sebelius herself didn't address the criticism of the health care bill. She told the attendants that she was there to listen and to see whether there have been any glitches in implementing the Medicare expansion.Perhaps Sebelius won't answer questions because she ain't smart enough to."I'm here to make sure the program on the ground is working the way it's supposed to work," she said.
Actually, she should be the person answering questions. She's in charge of the whole damn thing. No one anywhere should know more about it than her. Riiight!
Baucus is the “king” of MT. That weak, weak Republican Party there has been moribund for a full generation plus.
