Time is running out for people in need to get help paying their summer utility bill. Today is the deadline to apply for aid through the county.
Before 10 a.m., the Community Action Agency let 230 people in to apply. Some lined up before the sun came up this morning at the agency's office in Bond Hill. Applicants can get up to $175 to pay their utility bill, an air conditioner or a fan .. or a combination of benefits.
Some in the line were upset that they couldn't get in or were turned away. But, those in charge of the program say they've had more people apply for help in the last two years than in the history of the program.
Rennia Baird told Local 12, "I came here yesterday but I got turned away. I was the last people and they did the cut off so I go here an hour early this morning."
Robin Avant of the Home Energy Assistance Program says "Unfortunately we have a lot of people that wait until the very last day and we can only take so many people."
Since July, more than 4,100 people have received assistance. This program is funded by the State of Ohio.

They are shameless tax freeloaders. At least they can thank the productive members of society for this largesse. They should also thank the Chinese worker for subsidizing their habits.

Living in Cincinnati and having received a few energy bills from Duke Energy, I wish I could line up as well.

No! This program if funded by taxes. Nothing is free and the taxpayers are screwed again.
It may not be fashionable to say but at our church, we have people calling every day looking for help with either food or utility bills, we have only one black family in our town that I know of and they haven’t called yet.
It’s not just a black thing, people of all races are hurting in Obama’s economy.
