"Here we go again. Again with the Throwing bombs and not answering the core question. I keep saying (legal/constitutional) ideas not something completely out of left field as you infer. I am not a constitutional authority and obviously neither are you. If you can't deal with the original question AS WRITTEN then go throw your bombs elsewhere."

Throw Bombs? I stated fact. Any Constitutional authority would back me up on them.

BOTTOM LINE: Here is the way a President can be removed from Office:

1. He can resign.

2. He can be impeached and convicted.

3. He can die by either natural causes or be murdered.

4. He can be defeated in his bid for a 2nd term.

5. A Constitutional Amendment by way of Either a Convention or proposed by the National Representatives.

However an Amendment takes far longer than 8 years!

That is all. Nothing else unless you want to consider Revolution or coup d'état...

Question. Can "We" as citizens call for impeachment of the President...

Yes, you can call for anything you want. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper and call for Obama's impeachment, or call your favoriate talk-radio show. There was an article this morning on how the Washington Times allowed an OpEd on their page calling for Obama's impeachment.

...and can we do it by ballot?

No, you cannot. You can support a candidate who runs on a platform of supporting filing articles of impeachment, but I suspect most candidates would shy away from doing that.

I believe it would be far better to defeat him in the 2012 elections. It’s also possible that he will lose in the primaries if Hillary! attacks.

If Baraq does win in 2012 (by a Clintonian plurality with a Soros funded 3rd party doing a Perot) then impeachment should proceed immediately thereafter.

We can call for impeachment but we can’t actually impeach the President. Read the constitution, it spells it out clear and simple. Citizens can call for anything, actually doing something about it is another matter.

NOPE, and as much as I detest this idiot president, I want him to suffer for the next 2 years under the new Conservative Republican CONTROLED CONGRESS.

Who would you want to take his place? BIDEN? lol, PELOSIE? lol. God forbid. Just let this idiot suffer in his new DIGS. BO & MO are such never ending comical routine these days, hate to lose that.

The Constitution is not some thick book. It can be printed in pamphlet form to fit in your pocket and be read completely an an hour. There is no legal or constitutional shortcut to removal of a sitting president. Wait until January 20, 2013 or elect sufficient numbers of senators and congressmen to this November to vote impeachment and conviction in 2011.

He was elected by the citizens on a ballot - why can’t he be impeached on a ballot?

Because our founding father's feared democracy, there is no provision in the constitution for any sort of national referendum whatsoever. That's the simple answer is a nutshell.

We are a "Constitutional Republic" by design for this very reason... (The whims of the Majority).

He can't be removed from office by the vote of the People only by the provisions listed in the Constitution.

Everyone thinks Democracy is a grand thing but the Founders wanted no part of it...

If you can't understand why I would suggest a study of the trials and tribulations of Socrates...

I have not read every comment but merely skimmed and I see this is an old thread but it came up when I Googled an article. First we live in a federal republic not a constitutional republic, constitutional republics do not exist. Look up federal republic and you will find the words many states falling under the laws of one constitution. Now on to your question, yes we can call for the impeachment of a governing power, can we impeach? No. That is up to our representatives to do. But we the people can initiate an inquiry. This is in accordance with a little known part of our constitution called the “Jefferson Manual”. It gives we the people the right to submit a memorial of impeachment. After submossion it is reviewed by Congress and addressed. Hope this helps.
