Gen. Petraeus: Dove World Outreach Center's 'Burn a Koran Day' endangers US troops
Christian Science Monitor ^ | 09/07/2010 | Jonathan Adams

Posted on 09/07/2010 6:19:50 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

The United States' top commander in Afghanistan has warned that a planned Koran-burning event in Florida could put US troops in danger.

Gen. David Petraeus added his voice to mounting protests from both the US and abroad over the Dove World Outreach Center's plans to burn Korans on Saturday to mark the anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks. His comments ratcheted up the pressure on once-obscure pastor Terry Jones to call off the event.

The controversy comes as some 120,000 US and allied troops are waging a counter-insurgency campaign against the Taliban in Afghanistan, a campaign whose goals include winning support for the US-backed government from the largely Muslim population.

General Petraeus said that burning Korans "is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems – not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community," according to CNN.

""It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort in Afghanistan," Gen. David Petraeus said in a statement issued Monday ...

"Even the rumor that it might take place has sparked demonstrations such as the one that took place in Kabul yesterday," he said. "Were the actual burning to take place, the safety of our soldiers and civilians would be put in jeopardy and accomplishment of the mission would be made more difficult."

"Mr. Jones, the pastor of the center in Gainesville, Florida, has touted the activity as "International Burn the Koran Day." Jones also authored a book titled "Islam is of the Devil," which has a Facebook page and Twitter account.

I believe my Sainted Mother was a student of Sun Tzu, as she had an answer for that tactic.
She told my brothers and me, “ Never let your enemies know where your goat is tied!”
I still follow that today.
Thanks for the Quote.

Good, when the Taliban decide to openly attack instead of shooting then hiding behind women’s burkas, we’ll take them out!

Well said, my friend.

I have noticed that FR has no shortage of armchair generals who do not have an iota of knowledge regarding Warfare Doctrine and are too willing to confirm that fact.

They need no provocation from us to hate us and want to kill us. They have been doing that for 14 centuries now.

The FIRST ORDER provocation of the Mohammedans is the tome of the Pedophile Pirate, the Koran. It’s their “Mein Kampf”.

As Laura Ingraham said, why should we worry about offending people who hate us and want to kill us if they already hate us and want to kill us?

I cannot believe Petraeus (although he is an Øbama appointee), is doing this. This is a WAR ... the Taliban are trying to KILL our people.

So, why anger the enemy by atacking his fundamental, if not misdirected, religion?

uh, "WE" didn't start this stupid tussle did we? You can keep turning the other cheek if you like, but you'll continue to get slapped down. These people ONLY UNDERSTAND AN EYE FOR AN EYE ... they kill a soldier, We kill a soldier, they do another 911, we do Mecca. Time to take the gloves off, and you start by DEMONSTRATING you'll do it. Right now, the people running this show would want us to "stand down" on this trivial issue. NO ... it is time for America to start standing up. To hell with their "feelings" ... I'm tired of their "my way or the highway" attitude. They can "dis" us as infidels, but we have to "respect" them and their stupid "religion." People can burn my flag and you don't mind, but burn a Koran and YOU go nuts. I'm not "angering an enemy" I'm ANGRY AT THE ENEMY! And this is MY way of gently telling them without beheading them as they would us.

I wonder when Petreaus is going to figure out that there is no such thing as a “moderate” muslim.

True, it is the "moderate" muslims that the heretics within the religion.

Easy for you to anger the Muzzies when other are sitting in the sand to defend that Freedom.

If they are defending our freedom (and we love them for it), then what sense does it make to not exercise it?

Easy for you and Laura to say. You're both sitting in an air-conditioned office while others spill their blood in order to preseve your right to do so. As for myself, I choose to heed the General's plea in order to make life a little easier on the troops, even if that is just only a tinsy bit easier for them.

Unfortunately, the General fails to realize the great opportunity he has been given. The leadership will be rallying their followers to “protest against the infidels”. Not that they ever had a problem doing it before. Therefore, with those more prone to radical activities (is that an oxymoron where islam is concerned?) coming out into the open, I think the General now has a target rich environment.

Just imagine what a few well placed missiles and/or bombs could accomplish. They sure don’t seem to a have problem with killing innocents. I say repay the favor and thin the herd.

Church bent on burning Koran

“We wanted to send a very clear message to them that we are not interested in their Sharia law.”

This is a real slap in the face to Muslims who “are not interested in their Sharia law.”

If Petraeus says don’t do it, don’t do it.

You would like to excercise this freedom of speech even if one of our soldiers is killed in retribution specifically for your act? I will ovecome my pride and heed the General's advice, for the sake of those who defend my Freedoms. Freedom of speech is also freedom not to speak.

So Petraeus is worried that burning a Koran will increase anger toward our troops.

But a few months ago we heard that our troops are unhappy with the strict rules of engagement which require that they hold fire until they are certain that civilians would not be in the target area.

The troops want more latitude to shoot, which would result in more civilian casualties, which would anger the Muslims just as burning a Koran angers them.

There are valid criticisms of burning a Koran but angering Muslims can’t be one of them. Fear of their anger is only a sign of our cowardace.

The Islamics say we provoke all of their murderous acts.

If we would just do as they say all of this violence would stop.

The Islamo-Fascist apologists won't even attempt to refute his arguments.

"Islamic Law is totalitarian in nature. There is no separation of church and state. It is irrational. It is supposedly immutable and cannot be changed. It must be accepted without criticism. It has many similarities to Nazism, Communism and Fascism. It is not compatible with Western Civilization."

then what sense does it make to not exercise it?

If they will give up their life for you, would you not hold your tongue for their sake? Is it sound tactics to increase the danger level for our troops just so you can have your pleasure at their expense? Would it be better to have your Freedoms defended so that your Freedoms can be utilized wisely and constructively? Give this some thought.
