There are many Freepers who are current and former members of the Armed Forces. I have seen a lot of them post in these threads, that they DO care, and would like to see justice meted out in these cases.

Holmes is charged with murdering an Afghan civilian near the base where he was stationed in Afghanistan’s Kandahar Province. He’s accused of throwing a grenade and shooting the civilian.
A magistrate ruled Holmes will remain in custody until his Article 32 hearing, the military equivalent of a grand jury

This comment willfully misunderstands the problem. In World War II, we were fighting the extant armed forces of a nation state in control of vast swaths of territory. The nation-state in question (Germany or Japan) was the explicit target to wear down its resources for the express purpose of defeating its armed forces.
It's an entirely different proposition when you occupy a country that is headed by a government you installed, are propping up, or otherwise facilitating restoration of. Your target is no longer the nation-state and its armed forces, which in fact are your allies to some degree or another. You don't get to just go on indiscriminate, mass killing sprees unless you're willing to admit that, yes, we are the Nazis.
I fought in one of those kind of wars. We weren't the SS then, we're not the SS now, and that's because the majority of us understand basic moral ethics, even in a war zone.
Now if your proposition is that you disagree with getting embroiled in guerrilla wars in the first place, that at least has intellectual coherence. Guerrilla wars are messy by definition, and invariably put more difficult behavioral constraints on the troops engaged.

I held two fundraisers for the Navy SEAL Three in Nov '09 and Feb '10. The Navy went balls to the wall against those fine men. they indicted them over Thanksgiving and put them through hell over Christmas. It was disgusting. So I don't really give a shit what the Pentagon brass says about what THESE guys supposedly did. Let's wait for the FACTS. Until them I assume they are being railroaded to prop up McCrystal's disgraceful ROEs, until proven otherwise.

So far all but one of the accused in the Haditha case has been exonerated. SSgt Frank Wuterich, the squad leader, has been waiting for his day in court for almost 5 years, during which the Marines recently forced his Military Lawyers to retire, while keeping the prosecution paid and qualified for a full pension.
The court date has been again postponed due to one of the prosecution team suffering an injury playing with his son.
Lt Colonel Chessani had his charges dismissed when the Court found he was a victim of Unlawful Command Influence by 4 star (3 at the time) General Mattis.

The government hasn't been playing square for a very long time.
And so far, there have been DOZENS of other convictions of service members who engaged in criminal activity while deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq. What's your point?
The government alleges, trial courts hear, juries decide. Just because one case is troubled, doesn't mean all cases are troubled, right?
Should we also believe Sgt. Hasan Akbar's case is defective because the government has had UCI problems in another unrelated case, the Haditha case? Probably not, right? But, this is PRECISELY the argument you're making about this case.
Cases succeed or fail on their own merits. It's that simple. These men are presumed innocent, and will be judged by a jury of their peers.
My comment earlier was a reminder of historical FACT - There were PLENTY of US service members who were tried, convicted and hanged until death during WWII. The abuse and murder of civilians in combat zones is not a new phenomenon. We shouldn't be surprised when it happens, and we certainly shouldn't be surprised when the government prosecutes vigorously.
