RANCHO CUCAMONGA - The Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino is defending its decision to hold an event in the city that rallied support around legislation that would aid undocumented young people.

The gathering at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church aimed to raise awareness and promote advocacy for the DREAM Act, said John Andrews, spokesman for the Diocese of San Bernardino.

The Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors Act would help young illegal immigrants who are illegally in the United States enlist in the military, attend college or acquire citizenship. The youth would have to meet certain requirements, such as being high school graduates and of good moral character.

But members of a Claremont-based grassroots group said the Catholic Diocese has violated the separation of church and state principle. Separation of church and state is derived from documents put together by the country's founders.

"They are no longer advocating people to vote, they are going further beyond than that. They are politically looking to circumvent the rule of law," said Raymond Herrera, founder of We The People, California's Crusader

As a Catholic I’ve nothing but the utmost contempt for the church hierarchy and the Vatican.

Then you aren't much of a Catholic, are you newbie?

So how much $$$ are they going to pony up to pay for all of this? Who among them is going to be held legally and financially responsible for these illegals?

It must be nice to place the burden of responsibility at other peoples feet and have them open up their wallets. /s

In a few area's you are right....Years back starting a new parish, we had to pay interest on the money the arch diocese loaned to build the church.

Charging interest on moneys already donated to the arch diocese smacked of being a bit much. In fact the old testament has rules about loans and who you can and cannot charge interest.... It forbids charging interest on moneys loaned to family members, and the catholic church is suppose to be one family of christian believers...but thats just one persons opinion....Also had laws on usury /sp..

I have a solution!

Send them back to where ever they came and have the Catholic Church support them.

STOP, coercing others to support people that are here ILLEGALLY! It is wrong from a secular perspective and wrong from a Christian perspective. Name a single passage in the Bible where Christ or a prophet asks the GOVERNMENT to support people they want to persuade to be Christians or Catholics? You will NEVER find it because it does not exist.

Even Paul worked as a tent maker to not be s burden to others. It is the body of believers, the church, that are supposed to DIRECTLY support those in need.

Send the ILLEGALS to Rome and let the Pope support them.

“Why doesn’t Mexico have its own DREAM Act for its citizens?”

Why bother when you have useful idiots to throw money at criminals. Mexico is probably thrilled to have us take over THEIR problem. Mexico has no shame.

This is not Christianity. It is arrogant humanism that is supposed to pull at your heart strings. THEY don't want to PAY for it. No! YOU are supposed to pay for it so they feel “righteous”.

“THE CATHOLICS ARE NOT BRINGING IN THE ILLEGALS. THE PROTESTANT FARMERS OUT WEST HAVE ALWAYS HAD A “TASTE FOR SLAVES”. THEY WANT THEM TO WORK ON THEIR RANCHES FOR VERY LITTLE WAGES.”

Hon, CATHOLICS employee ILLEGALS TOO! Carolyn Kennedy couldn’t run because of all her LOWLY PAID ILLEGAL SERVANTS and MAIDS.

As a Catholic I’ve nothing but the utmost contempt for the church hierarchy and the Vatican.

Ad hominem attacks upon the "church hierarchy and the Vatican" isn't very Catholic now, is it? Is there no Bishop, or Pope or Cardinal that you respect? Yes, there have always been legitimate issues regarding some in Church leadership -- from the time Jesus died on the cross for our sins -- but to publicly proclaim "contempt" for everyone in the "hierarchy" shows ignorance and a lack of charity and respect, at the least. Say's me, newbie.

Friend, I accept The Holy Trinity, God The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I don’t need to explain myself or my Catholicism to anyone, least of all you, there’s no one in this world who can judge me on my love of The Lord, none but the one on high. No Pope I respect? I respect John Paul the 2nd. Bishops? Only one, The late Fulton J. Sheen. And as for mentors I respect some of the Christian Brothers of Ireland who guided me as a student at Essex Catholic High School in Newark New Jersey forty years ago. Ad Hominems? What ad hominems, particularly? Friend stick to taking your own inventory, as taking the inventory of others does them nor you any good and not mine as I did not address you in that post or take your inventory. And I might suggest, just a suggestion, drop the ‘’’newbie’’ bs. I’m a fifty-four year-old man, not a kid. It makes you look rather 8th. gradei’sh by comparision . I’ll include a prayer for you in my Rosary tonight and an Act of Contrition for myself for my intemperance. Peace be with you.

As a Catholic I’ve nothing but the utmost contempt for the church hierarchy and the Vatican.

I never questioned your beliefs in Church dogma, doctrine, or those items listed in the Creed and I never asked you to take an "inventory" of yourself whatever that is. You sound a little defensive.

I merely asked about your quote above. Which is, an ad hominem attack on the Church and its leadership. "Contempt" is a very strong word suggesting "beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn." Really? Everyone in the current hierarchy and in the Vatican is deserving of your utmost contempt? Really? Instead of replying to the question, you talk about "inventory" and not having to explain anything. Then you bring up "only one" bishop, Fulton Sheen and "only one" Pope, John Paul II. OK, that's a start. Pope Leo XIII and Pope Pius X might be others to at least ponder.

Newbie, on the other hand, is not a strong word around here, nor is it bs, and it pertains to your status of having just arrived here on FreeRepublic a little over a week ago. If you don't like being called newbie, that's just plain too bad, newbie.

Thanks for the prayer, and I'll say a couple for you too.

Friend I listed a number of people in my Catholic life I respect and who made an impression on me or did you not read the whole post? Taking inventory can be as ‘’Remove the plank from your own eye that you may more clearly see the splinter in your brothers’’ and I get defensive when strangers take my inventory. You don’t know me or the life I live/lived or how I worship my God as a Catholic. Peace unto you again I say.

I’m not your “Friend” and I think you are a troll or retread or both. You don’t like the name newbie, yet you’ve posted fifty posts in two day’s time and already calling names.

That’s very Christian of you.

But it is very Christian to call for the abolition of non-profit tax status for the Catholic Church, eh? And is it very Catholic not to be able to respond with a single living bishop (or even the current Pope) that isn't to be held in contempt?

When the Catholic Church involves itself in politics and encourages law-braking it should lose it’s tax-exempt status. Give it a rest pal you’re becoming tiresome.

I have a great idea. Lets find a few illegal alien families in the local area and take them to his house and have these illegals occupy his house without his permission. Then have him pay for their medical care and other expenses and see how long he keeps his opinion. If he disagrees go on the verbal attack and start calling him a racist plus every other way the Left does.
