Retired Gen. Colin Powell, a former chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, on Sunday made the case for Congress to pass the DREAM Act, a way for young illegal immigrants to become citizens if they attend college or join the military.
Republicans in the Senate are strongly opposed to attaching the DREAM Act to the annual defense authorization bill.
“Whether it should be part of the Defense Bill or not, is something the Congress will decide,” Powell said on NBC’s "Meet the Press."
However he stressed that Republicans should not embrace an anti-immigration platform.
“Immigration is what's keeping this country's lifeblood moving forward," he said.
"America is going to be a minority nation in one more generation. Our minorities are not getting educated well enough now. Fifty percent of our minority kids are not finishing high school. We've got to invest in education. We should use the DREAM Act as one way to do it,” Powell said on Sunday.
I have also Dreamed of supplying funds for all illegal residents and their children as it is my duty. I just did not realize that the Federal Government also had the authority to make me pay for these individuals.
Maybe I have dreamed way too much - beyond my financial capabilities...
What good is defending your country in one instance if your going to turn around and give it away in the next?

Does anybody really care what this man thinks? Dems think he’s some kind of Republican, Republicans know he voted for Obama ... so who cares what he thinks ... Why doesn’t the press go interview a rock, the answer will be as relevant, especially if they hear an echo of absurdity.

He lost any credibility he ever had the day he endorsed Obama.
Isn’t this the guy who talked Bush 41 into prematurely shutting down Operation Desert Storm which then caused us to have to go back later to clean up the mess? The General needs to go back to whatever he’s been doing during the past couple years. He’s an Obamanoid and I’m not interested in anything that he has to say. I do not consider him a leader.
